Hey Guy's! A buddy of mine is in the works of buying a 1939 Ford Coupe Hot Rod. It has a 350 CID Chevy engine with an automatic transmission. He has a bellhousing, flywheel, pressure plate and M22 tranny. Where can he go to purchase the clutch linkage and pedals to make the swap? Thanks! Don

I'll take a stab at this as an idea that may be helpful . The stock 39 pedal assembly will not work easily with the Chevy throw out due to the position of the clutch throw arm. If you have a fork lever style throw out bell housing you may have to revert to the old style chevy pickup clutch linkage where there was a pivot ball on the block and a bell crank assembly that mounted to the frame connecting to the pivot ball. By using a 1940 pedal assemble it would closer index the clutch throw relationship. This would get you close to a smooth setup but I am sure that the ratios would all have to be readjusted for the correct throw.

I'm just finishing up a clutch bell crank (or Z-bar) in my '36 Ford 3w. I first made a bracket for the frame, then bought a bell crank that was too long and cut out a section in the middle to get the length I wanted and welded it back together.

I next cut off the arms and made new ones out of 1/4"x1-1/2" stock, drilled a hole in one end of each arm so it would slip over the z-bar shaft and welded it 360° on each side. Then, I cut down the arms to 1" wide and drilled 3/16" holes for the pins. Bought some clevis's and made some rods out of 3/8" rod and threaded the ends.

I'm using a '40 Ford set of pedals. Here a few pics I took yesterday - hope they help......

  6. I did something very similar on my 50 chevy delivery using stock pedals and clutch linkage parts from a junk 75 ford F-150..cut the Z-bar and re-clocked it to work for my pedal/throwout fork and used the F-150 Z-bar pivot brackets....was a lot simpler that it sounds.
