Part of the project of getting my '62 Catalina roadworthy this spring was to give the engine bay a once over. Now that most of the details have been hammered out I figure its about time to post up some before and after photos.

Huge props to my buddy Hollywood for spraying the block and laying the HOK coarse silver flake on the air cleaner base.

I still need to install some sexier plug wires but overall I'm really happy with how it came out.

The air cleaner base a '66 Toronado installed backwards. The lid is a '60s Cal Custom that I had chromed to match the valve covers.

good job, man! there's nothing like a clean, detailed, thought out engine bay, just so long as it's not too clean to drive and not all resto-geeked. i like your pontiac a lot!

  7. Great job! Did you take the motor out or did you spray in the car? What kind of engine paint did you use? Is it me, or does the color have pearl????

The motor stayed in the car but everything that could be unbolted easily was removed.

The lime gold color does have a little pearl in it. Believe it or not that's an OE factory color from a few years ago. A lap dance from a crack whore goes to the poor sucker that can identify what vehicle its from.

The paint is not any special high temp deal. Just a two-stage base color with no clear. The heat from the engine bakes it on. It actually got more shiny and bright and the pearl came out after it cured. My buddy has been painting engines like this for years and they hold up really well. As you can see it burns off the really hot parts like the exhaust ports and heat risers but the high temp stuff does that too.

I agree that Saturn has had some sick offerings recently but that's not it either.

You painted that IN the car?!? That looks great! I wish I would've known about that color before. It would be perfect for my 59's motor
