Like the title implies, I am having an issue and would like to remedy it before Monday when the tech line is open. My tach and gauges were working fine but when I attempted to calibrate the speedo something went wrong. Now the tach needle is on the wrong side of the peg. WTF? Anyone have any ideas? I shut off the power to attempt a reboot but that didn't have any effect (works on my phone).

I have seen numerous installs of the direct fit cluster on the HAMB, has anyone had this issue?

  2. Hope that it’s an easy fix! I have one NIB for mine, so I’ll be interested in the outcome.

No clue. I’m guessing that the tach is indicating there is an issue like a check engine light.

I really don’t want to remove the cluster. I’ll report back the findings Monday. Hoping for something

  5. Call Classic tech help.
I had the same thing happen to a Classic 5" speedo. I think they told me to drive at 30 mph and it would correct. Whatever they told me, it worked and has been trouble free since.

The tech guy said the tach needle issue is not uncommon and that I didn't hurt anything. He suggested using a magnet to pull it around counter-clockwise. I tried with a 3/4" rare earth magnet, it moved it a ways but not past 6 o'clock or so. The only other magnet I could think of in the tool box was one of those bolt picker upper things but it didn't move the needle at all. However, when I stuck the rare earth magnet to the bolt grabber it swept the needle around in seconds.

Now I was able to enter the factory settings mode and I'm ready to calibrate again once the rain stops in a couple of days. He said the measured mile is the best way to calibrate especially working alone. So I will map me out a course using my Silverado.

Good to know , I have not encounter this issue but have program a couple electric speedo / tac in big trucks,
When It comes to Magnet sticks in my past experience the ones that come from auto parts stores / big box stores are weak /junk not enough magnet strength /pull,
But the ones that Sap /Mac that have the shell ring that you can slide up steam of magnet Is stronger when shell ring is around magnet and I would assume placing another stacking magnet it will make it even stronger & direct /narrow the pull Focus

find a straight road you want to use on Google earth, and you can get a very accurate measurement.

That's what I tried the first time, but I screwed it up exiting the calibration mode. According to the tech, most issues are with the button, it doesn't always make contact when pressed. You think you pressed it but not so much. That could be, when I was resetting it to factory settings today (erasing the programming I entered) I had to repeat the sequence twice to get it in the right mode. Cheap little button, I would recommend installing a better momentary button when wiring to those who have yet to install one. And make sure you mount it somewhere handy so you can operate it whilst driving!

  11. Is the button supplied with the instrument cluster?

Yes, they include one but I would opt for a higher quality switch. I mean I guess you only use it once, it's likely fine. Just be aware if something goes wrong while calibrating it is probably that switch.

I mapped out a one mile course in my subdivision using my Silverado and then took the 41 on the same route to calibrate the speedo. You have to make sure that button makes contact, I found I had to jiggle it a bit and press firm, but it worked! The high beam indicator and turn signal indicators do provide feedback if you are doing it right.

More advise on the button, where ever your key is (mine is on the left) install the button on the opposite side on the dash. To enter the calibration mode you have to hold that button while starting the car. That gets tricky if you install the button near the ignition switch.

This is on my way to work this morning. 60 MPH at 1800 RPM. T's & P's lookin good. That's a 3:70 9" Posi back there. Cool.

I have a off topic truck and the tach hasn't every worked since I got it. Driving though the desert on the way to Vegas last year at about 80 MPH, I looked down and the tach was working. worked great for about 3 hrs. and then started to do weird stuff like pegging the needle all the way around at the post. Suddenly quite working and hasn't worked since.
And here I just got my $1000.00 set of Classic instrument gauges in the mail a day ago.
