    Hey BA,

These days, it is still fun thinking, playing, and modifying at little to no cost, small models. Nostalgia is good for the soul, with or without a drink nearby. Our trees have seen many varieties from the cut ones on the Christmas tree lots, (don't take little dogs to a sawdust strewn lot + trees, they go wild !) to a giant 9 foot tall artificial tree with/without lights to a simple little tree similar to Charlie Brown's skimpy tree. (We were into minimalist thing back then) Time was put into each tree from the designs to the 50's ornaments, to the modern lights built in, etc. Again, the time decorating varied, depending on which tree was used for the traditional decorating day after Thanksgiving.

But, the one tree that has given us plenty of nostalgia, memories, and a happy smile on a little girl's face when she sees the decorated tree, is all worthwhile, forever. We call it the "Granddaughter Tree." Every year, when her sleepover is timed with the old fashion, community/city event after Thanksgiving, her tree is ready and waiting in our house. Of course, the big tree, whatever version is up, is also waiting happy smiles and memories. (She puts one item on for herself, a 13 year old, Nutcracker musical ornament)

In those earlier times, plenty of stores had those pre-printed name, tiny ornaments readily available. But, as the years rolled on, they started disappearing one by one. So, creative minds and a steady pinstriping/flame painting hand, drew her name (and year) in the tiniest letters, on those dinky ornaments for her tree.

Each year, those little rolling, dust catchers somehow drive up to that tree for a "Gathering of The Little Tribes" event. It fits the mode of a giant, California Redwood Tree with the visiting, tiny hot rods and customs.

In north Iowa when the kids were growing up we went to a farm about 25 miles away and cut our own tree, it was great, Christmas carols the spontaneous snowball fights and a fresh cut huge Christmas tree for 35 dollars. We tried some of the Christmas tree farms in the area after the farmer retired. With there barns converted to craft pallaces full of apple cider and cinnamon. There trees were pittyfull so they import trees from Wisconsin and charge 65 dollars for them.
Some how tromping around the old farmers tree pach brought out more Christmas spirit.
    Merry Christmas

I've left this post until Xmas morning here in New Zealand [Merry Xmas everybody:):)]

Attached is a NZ native tree called the "Pohutukawa Tree"
It’s often called the New Zealand Christmas Tree because the peak blooming season of this magnificent tree with its crimson flowers is usually in mid-December and lasts through Christmas.

Around New Year these trees drop their decorations, almost as if Nature is observing our Xmas Traditions
