Great work on that top and belt line. You see a lot of transitions where the line is not tracing the window and it looks terrible. Excellent work!

Thanks guys. I love the feedback
And thanks slddnmatt, your photos were a huge motivator during the chop!

Everything to this point had been tacked together every 1/2 inch, all the tacks had been stretched, it was time for final welding and the beginning of a process that is still under way.metal finishing.

It has soul now ! The chop makes it and redoing the whole car even bottom side makes it your build not somebody else. Now you know the car from top to bottom. When cruzin you can feel the car is your creation, nice job man.

Thanks for all the pictures Jeffrey.
It's so hard to document the work while your thrashing to get a car done. I appreciate you coming out and taking so many awesome pictures!

Very nice work.Really like the chop and stance is already there too.Totally exciting to see a Mercury like this. There are Mercs and then there are Mercs.Your car has THE look already and even looks way better unfinished than 95% of all finished Mercurys.I hope you will keep the rest simple.Excellent choice on the motor too. Thanks much for sharing the pics and info.Makes this place worthwhile again.

  17. That chop is bad ass!! The whole thing rules. Good job boys.

And what he said. Hi Tom!

Damn dude, that's one hell of a compliment coming from you.
I promise this car will be simple.

    -Simple trim- 49 cadillac
    - simple interior- gold and white tuck and roll
    -Simple grille- sectioned 51 ford
    -simple wheel covers- 52 studabaker
    -set of Appleton 552's
    & green lacquer paint.

  24. Car is looking real good guys.First time I have been excited about a Merc build in a while.Chop looks real on point, rear window is in the right location not way up in the roof and the all mighty VERY IMPORTANT body detail under the window is still there. That does not happen very often these days.Great engine choice as well, you aint fuckin around with this Merc, its just my style.I hope no adjustable suspension but its yor car and your choices.Glad to hear it is being done in a simple way, that was my mindset thru my build also.

Great to see a traditional custom being built on a traditional website.Keep up the good work fellas.

Most of the pieces on the dash are going to be chromed, but the main part of the dash will be green as well as the garnish moldings.
Carpet is another story, I'd love to run a Trinidad Carpet with gold tinsel, but since I'm trying to keep this build centered around 1954 that won't work. Since its a late 50'a early 60's gm product....
But the color of the carpet will probably match the gold in the seats as closely as possible.

I'm surprised we haven't talked about this either!
We need to stop talking politics on shop night and talk about the real important stuff! CUSTOMS!!!

    I couldn't agree more Jeff.
The body line is ALWAYS an afterthought on most Merc chops. That's why it was damn near the first thing to nail down on mine. and Your absolutely correct... I ain't Fuckin round on this Merc.
As far as adjustable suspension goes... The only way my ride hight will change is if i get a flat.

Thank you so much for being excited about my Merc build!

  29. NICE !!! Music to my ears. So cool to see someone building a killer custom to a specific era.Im really diggin this.

Wait till you hammer the throttle and see the front end start to slowly raise up from the smooth power of that Caddy mill in your period custom.:) Great feeling to know you are doing it EXACTLY the way they did it in the year you are aiming for. (1954)

Just talking about this stuff makes the boxers fit tight.
