I have a early chevy pickup with a granny low 4 speed. The trans is toast but I need one that has a plate that the pto fits on. Did all trans in that era have that? What years will interchange, its a six cyl if that matters. Thanks

you said "early", what year is yours? They used the SM420 from the 1940s-1960s. take a picture or two, if you don't know

there were open and closed driveline version of the 420, and some had the park brake on the back

Its a basic chassis only Jim, it has a hydraulic cage on the back ,was originally used by the airlines for loading stuff on planes.I don't think it was ever titled or licensed.Truck arm rear suspension ,open driveline ,

That makes it 60 to 72.
I'd have to climb under my 77 1 ton to look but think even that has the plate that can be removed for a PTO. I had a couple of junk transmissions that came with a couple of 51 1 tons I bought a few years ago that I saved a Pto off. As Jim said you most likely have an SM420.

that suspension was used from 60-72, so it's probably from around then. they used the SM420 through 1967, then switched to the SM465. google pics of them, compare to yours, then you'll know what it you are working on.

  6. My '65 SM420 had a PTO plate on it. And the hand brake thingy.
