Just picked up a new project. It's a 5 window Chevy 3100 but I am not sure what year it is. Can anyone help ID it? It's really solid with the only rust holes on one side of the hood by a hinge. Cab corners, floors, fenders, doors, and everything else is really solid with only surface rust. Still has the 6 cylinder in it but I have no idea what kind of shape it's in. I might want to do a frame swap from something newer. Anyone have any info on that?

    Thanks for any help.

Looks like an early 52. 51 had vent windows and pull down door handles. 52 and 53 had vent windows and push button door handles, but they dropped the 3100 hood emblem and just used the Chevrolet emblem in late 52.

I believe that's the other way around. Earlier models incorporated both Chevrolet and 3100 (not all), but '53-54 used 3100 only on rear side of hood.

It looks to be a 1953. The hood badge (53/54 only and since the windshield is split) and the vent window making it 51-53. Also, the color on the truck is consistent (but doesn't mean that parts were swapped in the past). You can always look up the vin on driver side door, where the hinges are. Good luck!

Also, I think the speedo would read 90, begining in 53 and on.

It's gotta be a 53, just noticed the spare tire on the driver's side 53 only option.

I think it's a 53 after doing some checking. It was only $200.00, about 4 miles down the road, and it's 99% rust free. Anyone know what newer model frames you can put it on, like maybe an S10?

S-10???, stick with what you got, it works. But that just me. What are the plans and $200.00 is a steal to say the least. Nice going.

  12. ...is there a vin tag on the front drivers door jam?...from thar no. we can tell you what year it is. (actually the 2 letters(3rd & 4th digits) will determine the year)

OK I got it turned around, but if you look close it still has 3100 and Chevrolet emblems. That was used in 52 with the pushbutton door handles. Early 52 was the only year with both emblems and the pushbutton handles. It's always fun figuring it out and learning. I learn something new everyday.

The vin number starts with H53S002

    So it's a 53 I am guessing?

    I would say it's a safe bet that it's a 53.
