Can anyone tell me what years Chevy produced a 6-lug, 15" rim with the 3 hubcap clips? Bonus question - anyone know which wheels would have a 3" to 3 1/2" offset? Thanks in advance.
Starts around '61 or '62, used them until they went to the pass type stamped bumps. There's too much snow to go measure one.
i wanna say 72. My 67 has em but my buddies 73 was stock 5 and I cant find any 6-lug parts for his at all that aren't aftermarket.
All chevy 2wd trucks had 6 lug wheels up to 1970, but with the clips I wanna guess up to 1962 +/- I know hubcaps for 1965 use the wheels with the outside 'bump' clips.
15 inch 6 lug with clips on the inside were available from 55 to 59. My father had a 60 Apache fleetside and it had the rims with the bumps on the outside. The old style rims (inside clips) were not used on Chevy trucks after the 50s
We're talking 15" 6 lug only here. If you count artillery wheels, 15'' were first used in 1935. 15'' 6 clip with smooth center, riveted to rim were released as optional on passenger cars in 1948. Same wheel is used as an option on Chev or GMC pickup from the late '40s until '55-'56 when welded wheels appear. From here on, many different center stampings are found. The early style design, but heavier gauge metal, was used by U-Haul & on industrial equipment.
If you can give me a few days (possibly weeks and months) i did see a website that describes gmc/chevy truck wheels in great detail; All the intricate details such as wheel cover clips, lug patterns etc. But i can't remember where exactly i saw it. Speed(besides cars), general organization, and time-management are not my strong suits, so i may find it tonight or i may find it next week...........or?
Ok, found it: http://www.gmcguy.com/gmc_hubcaps_wheel_covers_and_rims.html i don't know if that will help you, but it's interesting as hell nonetheless.
