So i was looking through mcmaster carr, and they have custom order chain couplers, they are rated to 10,800 in lbs(a little less than 1000 ft lbs) and 2,000 rpms, now i'd like to use one on the crankshaft of my 331 hemi up to 5,500 rpms. You guys think it'll hold up??

That's basically what I intend to do with one of my future projects.

If you can figure out how much hp the
blower takes to drive at your estimated
5500 peek rpm, you can calculate the
amount of torque that coupler will have
to transmit. The formula is 'Torque
equals HP times 5252, divided by
    the RPM
    '
. If the blower tales a 100 hp
to spin at 5500 rpm, the coupler will
be only be transmitting about 95 ft./lbs
of torque - so that particular coupler - if
it has a rated torque capacity of nearly
    1000 ft.lbs at 2000 rpm, would actually
be way, way overkill for this application

Well at this point i have a chopped 30 plymouth coupe, Q/C or olds rear, mopar tube front axle, '51 331 hemi, full race olds hydro, and Gmc 6v-71 still with that original puke colored paint. I'm gunna make my own trans and blower adapters, and a tube frame out of 2 and 2 1/2 round tube. Kinda 60's race coupe look, I gotta finish my roadster first, but it never hurts to tackle some small stuff ahead of time

  8. But they WORK. We use them on our roots blowers for pushing cement and lime powder..............you do know the blower was invented for pumping air into mines 100+ years ago no?

  9. You want some dead Lovejoy parts to just look at and see if they work?

  10. do you have the Potvin blower adapter or are you making one, with a straight coupler the drive will be 1:1 chain couplers get hot used them in mini-sprints and inboard hydros

How hot are we talking ? In my application it will be inside the timing case, and splash fed with oil.

  12. so hot that you could burn yourself but they only got oiled before and after a run 5 laps for the inboard hydro 12 to 25 laps for the mini-sprint but they were used do drive a 1450 lbs boat with a 280hp 305 the mini weighted 725+ driver and had a 1200cc motor you won't be applying as much pressure less friction less heat. is this for a street car or drags?

  13. I think a belt drive is better. They will give you a weak point to break if you screw something up. If I had a super charger I would want a belt. IF YOU USE A CHAIN DRIVE BE SURE TO HAVE A SHEAR PINS OF SOME KIND.

sturgis, Not talking about a drive, just a coupler, basicly 2 sprockets inline with a chain wrapped around both to make it a straight shaft

And how does it get hot unless it is miss alined??

Also i'll check into lovejoy a little further

And no i dont have a potvin kit, but i'm looking to buy a bridgeport
