58gmc 1/2ton truck with 302gmc 6cylinder , Clifford Intake, Clifford Headers, HEI ignition, camwork, 3speed with manual OD Langdon suggested a holley390 or 4barrel Edelbrock 1406 12bolt has a modified 4barrel Holley turned into a 3barrel;good results he claims. Just going to cruise around occasional hauling. Still cant decide...
If you have both on hand just give them both a try. But if your purchasing. Put a Edelbrock for Easyer tuning and jetting. Sent from my Z981 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I have it narrowed to either that modified Holley from 12bolt or the Edelbrock. No I don't have any carb on hand
So what is/are the differences in the holley390 and 12bot's modified 3barrel setup?I am confused about the two. Tom at 12bolt stated his runs on a single barrel until you push the pedal.;more efficient. Whereas the 390 is running on the idle circuit?
I run a 500 cfm 1850 single feed Holley on our race 302 and ran it on our stock one too. It was cheap and easy. We ran it as a vac secondary for awhile and now it's mechanical. I don't really see a difference. The driveability is great and tuning simple.
http://www.12bolt.com/store/p115/3_Barrel_Holley_carb_and_conversion_kit.html watch the video. Makes sense to me for a daily driver,right...
What a great idea. Will take some tuning as he says. I wonder why he wouldn't use 4th gear in his 5 speed? If is an overdrive, the last rear gear I would ever want is a 2.56.
That's different. I'd really like to see the manifold he is using. It looks like this is a 6 cylinder thing only; I don't see how it could work on a V8.
The 3 BBL modified holley works great. One tuning tip. Use 2 springs in the secondary. I use the lightest one and one step down from the stiffest.
Real Holley 3 barrels were 1050's might be a tad over carbed for a 302. I've been 171 at Bonneville with a 600.
"tad over carbed" go to 12bolt and watch his video about how he modifies the 4barrel to make it a 3barrel.For a cruiser it will do fine(for me)--
Thanks, I have seen his video and forgot about his conversion. It's really a good idea since most 6's came with a single barrel and would continue to perform well as you say by crusing. Opening one up using all barrels of his carb conversion would happen during acceleration and a GMC can handle that well even with very little hop-ups. My reference was to the real Holley 3 barrels that performed extremely well an large engines.
