Might have to drop and boil the gas tank as I'm sure it's varnished up and rusty. Once it's running, you might be in for a radiator boil out too.

If I were you, I'd be twisting his arm to get the 34!!!!

  5. All good advice so far, don't expect miracles for something that has been largely sitting outside for that long. You'll probably find everything wrong with it plus what critters have been sleeping it it as well. I myself would classify it as a good parts car, others may differ.

Mine sat for 26 years. Rebuilt the fuel system, starter, generator, and brakes. The ole' girl made it to and from Salina without any problems. Good luck on the car!

  10. Thing with the 216 and 235 is to drain it dry you need to pull a plug in the block, otherwise coolant or water will still sit in it. It doesn't get as cold in SC as here in NY but they're not immune to temps below freezing either, especially if you figure 40 winters. My 235 has some kind of internal crack that when it sits the water drains into the oil pan. And it had decent anti-freeze in it when I got it.

So like I said the first step is to see what comes out when you drain the oil; if it's black and thick you might be okay, stick a piece of wire in the drain hole and see if there's any sludge in the bottom of the pan. If it's brown and looks like soft-serve ice cream, forget it, pull it and stick your 350 in there.

If it is like my 235, which sat for ~10 years, check the to rods the rockers run on. It is hollow and oil is suppose to flow through it. I could barely get a piece of 14 gauge wire down it and it is ~1/4" diameter or more
I cleaned it out after soaking by using a long drill bit rotated by hand .
