Thought I'd start a new thread on the great Canadian drag racing history. Post up your pics and stories of the glory days of 1320 in our neck of the woods. I grew up going to races in Ashcroft, Mission, Kamloops and Spokane. My Dad and Uncle raced in Mission and my other uncle raced in both Mission and Ashcroft. Starting things off is this killer T altered racing at the original Mission Raceways track in Mission BC circa mid 60's. This pic is from my Dad's archives. Being 409 powered I thought it only appropriate! IMG_1247.jpg

    Cool!
I’m not old enough to remember anything historical but I know there lots of racing history in southern Ontario. Hopefully some members will post some of their cool memories.

Really? I don't know the family, but assumed the owner and the truck were still in SK.

I sold popcorn at the old Mission track. This is my brother-in-law driving Bill Edwards "Double Headache" digger.

Bill's Texaco was three blocks across the border in Sumas, moved up to an injected hemi, then to rear engine Top Alcohol car.

My uncle was the very first car to run down the track. Had a blast being on his pit crew and alll the time we had there. Such a waste the track’s still not up and running

Him and his son campaigned alcohol cars in the 90’s if memory serves me. They were from Washington weren’t they?

  17. My era of hanging out there was the late ‘90’s. I had a buddy who raced there. The best crappy burgers you could ever want at the track there!

Wow, those Mission pics bring back memories. My dad would drive myself and a friend about once a month to Mission when the Lougheed highway was a two lane road. Seemed like a looong trip both ways (my friends dad never once returned the favour!). My avatar is a pic of the tracks decal I bought in the '60s and still have. I'll have to did out the pics I have of the Canadian II, Jerry Ruth, and all the others....

That's my cousin Bryan in my avatar and he and my other cousin Mike owned The Windsor Dragway in Ontario. Opened from 1968 to 1971 and hosted some of the greats of drag racing and many local names in southern Ontario. There's a few YouTube videos to check out if you wish and some years ago was featured in an article of Canadian Hot Rod I believe. vWS Fri. Sept. 5 1969 pg. 25.JPG 07.jpg 032.jpg 033.jpg

^^^This is the first photo of the original Mission Raceways, that shows the spectator bleachers; always had apartments or something in photos looking from this side of the track. Never got there, always wanted too, and then you guys had to wait like 25 years for the new track that was promised. Hope to make it to Mission this coming summer, and it looks like Ashford is dead. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Dad raced at Kohler Dragway in Cayuga Ontario in the ‘56 up into the ‘60’s . Fast Elvis thread has pics and memorabilia of Dad’s club . Then he went racing at Merritville Speedway, Humberstone Speedway and Speedway Park in Ontario and Ransomeville Speedway in New York State.

I worked at Valley Speed & Marine in Kamloops in junior high stripping motors, grinding flywheels etc. Life was much simpler then!

I have no idea. That would have been in 2018 at a local car show n North Vancouver. The reason I remember it is you don't see funny car style 55 Ford pickups everyday. I think it had a 390-428 in it.
