I just bought an old t bucket frame and this was under it. I thought it was maybe olds, but im not sure. Anyone know what it is? Sent from my SM-G960U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That yoke looks Ford but the third member doesn't match photos for 55/56. Lug bolt pattern helps a lot if you have that and maybe a look at the brake drum from the outside and the brakes from the inside.
1937 to 1956 Oldsmobile and Pontiac. These rear ends used to be used in Junior Fuelers, and in other light weight cars, back in the day. Mickey Thompson made aluminum and magnesium third members for them. The 10 spline axles were a weak point, no Positraction's, and yours is most likely a 3.90:1 ratio gear setup. They're at least as strong as the 8.2" ring gear, 55-64 Chevrolet rear ends. Come out of a Monroe dairy farm? I am butch/56sedandelivery.
Maybe it's hidden but I looked for the "plug" to adjust the brakes on the bottom side of the backing plate but I didn't see it. To me it doesn't look like a 49 Ford backing plate (that 's the only one I have experience with)
If you compare them with a 57-64 Olds/Pont rear end, they look virtually the same, only SMALLER. Even the "ribs" look the same as the early 57-58 Olds/Pont third members, before they went to the 3 rib third members in 58. Not Ford, surely not shoebox (Ford), but the flange does look the same as compared to the up to 56 Ford (I think that's the cutoff, then the 9 inchers came out-I'm not a ford guy). It could be Olds/Pontiac. The early Ford rear is quite a bit smaller, and would have 4.5" bolt pattern at the wheels, while, the O/P has 5" bolt circle. The pictures are pretty rough....too rough for me to say for sure.
The ribs are a little too pronounced to be a fifty Ford, in my opinion. Something just says GM to me. Bones
The frame is Model A, they cut the front cross member out and added the steel further forward to run the 47-48 front end that’s under it. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
