Projects Can anybody school me on this old Ford?

I found an old '46? Ford for sale and even though I really don't have any business buying anything right now... Well, you know how it is.
Before I do something foolish, I was just hoping somebody could school me a little bit. I'm not sure if I've ever seen one like this before. I haven't gone to check it out yet in person. My biggest concern before I decide to make the couple hour drive is finding rear doors for it(some waste of oxygen stole the ones from this).
So any info, insight, pics, whatever would be great.
    Thanks

I like it. If the price is right I'd be all over it.

  3. '46 Sedan delivery... pretty rare. In addition to the rear doors, I believe the rear fenders are also sedan-delivery-only parts, so if those are missing you have a couple more rare parts to track down.

    Could make a cool project....

That is a very sought after sedan delivery. That said the rear doors are going to be tough to find. and I am not sure but the rear fenders may be model specific also. If it is not totally rotted in the ground and depending on the price I would make a road trip to check it out. The other thing to make sure of is the title and paper work on it. Larry

Anybody have any guesses what I should expect to spend IF I can find rear doors?

  7. I always thought that one of these would make a pretty cool 'ranchero' with appropriate bodywork.

A Ford version of a Ute.

If I was going to cut one with that in mind, I'd start with a moredor and do a little more work to get there.

The last time I came acrossed a pair was maybe 18 years ago when I was doing a 48 for a customer , the Iola swap meet and he wanted 500.00 a piece I was able to repair what I had for that and they where ready for paint. The swap meet ones would have had another 40 hours a piece in repair and prep . Larry

rear doors? or rear door? a friend's 47 has only one rear door. Panel trucks had two doors back there, didn't they?

Squirrel is right I was thinking of a 50 panel truck that I was doing about the same time. The 48 delivery was a single door and I remember replacing the bottom 6 inches of that too! To many paint fumes I guess! lol Larry

It has a title and the guy wants $1200 He says complete except the rear door. I'll have to double check if he has the LR fender.

If I were looking for a project, that is one I would go take a look at. If the right side is no worse than the left, and the big dent in the roof isn't gouged all to crap, I would be happy to get that. It looks like original paint, so you can really see what has and has not been done to it. I would be ready though, a nice rear door might set you back a bit, or a lot.

There is only one rear door. I read somewhere that the rear fender is the same as on a woodie- a car even scarcer.

  19. Pretty sure I've seen one with a split rear door, I believe it was optional.

I have a panel truck with rears doors , a sedan delivery I have only seen a door . Doesn’t mean they are not made by any means , deliveries are scarce anyway , rear doors would be close to determining what does a henway ?

Awsome vehicle at a seemingly good price, assuming limited rust, and pool on roof is an easy fix. Agreed, don't dessicrate this vehicle to build a Ute, when you could use a lower valued 4-door. If you're an accomplished bodyman (or bodywoman), you can probably build a rear door. Otherwise be forewarned; I think I've seen new repop steel Willys doors advertised for $5,000!

Worst case, it will drive just fine without a door.

Buy it Now ( if it has paperwork), then seek out the needed parts. If, in your quest, you become really discouraged you could always sell it. Just remember, the HAMB is a Wonder when it comes to finding/i.d.ing rare things. Hopefully there will be more to this story, Carp.

So, I'm not crazy. I was pondering that very thing as a friend of mine was trying to sell me a '48 moredor recently.
