Ah man, thank you so much. I appreciate it big time.

Coming from the suburbs of the Midwest, I've long been fascinated with the various forms of transportation in San Francisco. Back when I was living on the corner of Turk and Arguello, I was surprised to find that there was a street car that ran right in front of my house back in the 1950s. Here's a shot I found in the depths of the archives. 58933425_601279327060070_4496476136347271168_n.jpg

Which reminds me to ask, is The Prime Rib still open in San Francisco?
It was on Geary street, we had dinner there about 40 years ago.

Yes! It's still there and, from what I can surmise, hasn't changed a bit. They're open for takeout! 5655819_i39yw3qRvh8TNOhjctOy9EO77MK9gx3KagezdTDCYfQ.jpg
Although it's not my picture, I've spent many a night on Van Ness and on nearby Polk Street. Ha-Ra, Hemlock Tavern and my favorite, Edinburgh Castle. Good times in San Francisco!

I got both the name and the street wrong, well, I did say it was 40 years ago.

Maybe we need a thread on what is still in San Francisco. My memories go back to about '52. But there is a big blank space in the '60s, but I do vaguely remember a topless shoe shine girl buffing away on my desert boots somewhere in North Beach

Do I even dare mention Finoccio's with out getting a lot of grief? Was stationed at Travis AFB in 1960 and North Beach was just getting national press. Remember seeing Carol Dodo(?) on the swing at some joit that had a cover charge.

Obviously some have fond memories of the City but others don't. Suggest we keep this thread on track and I'll leave it at that. JMO

We were looking for her when we found the shoe shine girl. Tonga room where the band was on a raft in the swimming pool. What was the restaurant with the bow of a sailing ship coming out onto the sidewalk? During the Black Panther thing in Oakland I saw a '54 Chrysler near Fisherman's Wharf with the hood up and a sign that said "FREE HEMI!" Now that's car related.

Building this car in San Francisco is more interesting (to me) than building it anywhere else, well almost. There are many distractions but it is good to see the city in the background of the build pictures. For those of us who have much of our lives tied to the place it makes the build all the cooler. I'll try not to bug you with my enthusiasm for seeing him pull this off where I drove every car I owned from '61-'72 along with the trips from the early '50s. Clutch skill, gears, and brakes are important in the City By the Bay. :D

  19. I had a 49 Studebaker Starlite Coupe I used to drive in San Fransico. The hill holder clutch worked great there.

I wonder if you could adapt the Stude hill holder master cylinder, ball valve, and linkage to an A?

@J.Ukrop, I found these while cleaning up from my move. They are brand new, and go with the backing plates. PXL_20201224_232706100.jpeg

Your stories of San Francisco add so much color to this thread, and allow me to see the city in a different way. Please don't stop!

Thank you so much! I appreciate it big time. I can't wait to get the juice brakes going!

Didn't know anything about Lefty O'Douls until my Wife and I stumbled across it one Friday night looking for something to eat. The place was going off and a guy was playing a piano and had a large crowd singing along with him.
Was a late night that night.

Good looking plates. Don't know how much of a PITA it will be to get them registered in your name with the current backlog/closures at the DMV but you need to get them in your name ASAP. It would be a real bummer if someone else got a set of say '32 plates with the same number sequence for Christmas as well and registers it before you do. Hate to see them end up as a matched pair of wall hangers.
