So saturday I loaded the trailer with a bunch of mis matched parts, Shawn from Vintage tin was nice enough to go up and bring his trailer along to haul it back. Today at the shop I started working on it. so far I have the cowl and doors mocked up. its channeled 4in over the so far stock frame. plan is to suicide the front end, Z the rear. But I am now thinking about going topless maybe making a boat tail? or maybe just a build a roadster body from what I have. decisions decisions decisions........ this is what I am working with, Rusty Rusty 29 cab, 37 flat head, 37 ford straight axle, 40 ford rear end, misl parts. 40 ford 16in wheels. here is a pick of it when I picked it up, and what I got done on it today.
whats the idea? chop no chop? please dont make it a roadster ive seen to many good T bodys like that go south. so whats the idea?
Those doors look like they need bottom patches and all, but you might want to find out what they're worth before you start cutting them up. You might be surprised. Good luck with your project.
No to topless, that cab is way too nice to lose the top. If you want to build a fake roadster buy a junk cowl. I'm not trying to be a dick I just know a lot of guys looking for 28-29 ccpu that would kill for that cab.
Its not going to be a roadster. I am building it to be a truck. I was a little worried about the cab just because its pretty bad (I will post better pics tomorrow) But Shawn said we can make it a nice truck so its going to be a truck. just a lot of metal work ahead of me to make that happin. The plan, chop the top 6in, 4in channel over the frame, z the rear and suicide the front. short bed in the rear with a wood bottom. the drive shaft straight through the truck, only because is a closed loop drive shaft if it were not I would build the floor around it. doors will open like stock, Leaving the flattie as is no performance parts. still a little unsure on color, But the body will be in hot rod black, frame and wheels and motor is up in the air, Blue, Green or something not real sure yet.
I did mine in The Islands (St.Thomas) where nothing is availabe, and the mail is even worse. I had her running in less then a year. Now in Florida, she right at home and the top is snap in place, so it comes off in 2 minutes, if I want the sun. Didn't want to chop it cause its got the right highth for my head. Iceman
