I might have missed it but heres a list of stuff id use

    32-36 ford axle (more drop)

    35-36 split wishbone

37-48 ford spindles (all will work but 37 -41 "round are more desirable)

39-48 ford juice brakes (again 39-40 are more sought after cause they are adjustable at the bottom also)

a spring that is designed for the specific axle you use (reversed eye for lowness)

a set of shackles and perches from speedway motors

Heres a pic of my 32 this is a before shot

if you have trouble finding a mor drop axle, i offer the service of dropping axle, so does El polako here on the hamb, just look under the hamOdex.

And heres a pic of it after.

And calling it a rat rod doesnt offend me cause thats what everybody callsem anyways! It just a stereotype.

If ya got any other qs just ask.

Dam it! 296 V8 and Titus you guys hit the nail right on the head, first thing in the morning I am going to buy myself that book and Titus that's one bad ass car you have, thanks for the grocery list. That's just the information I needed. Now I have to head off to ebay to start shopping, not as fun as going to a junk yard or searching in old barns but here in connecticut where I live the junkyards dont have any cars under the year 2000.Titus out of curiousity what type of motor and tranny are you running? Thanks Dave [IMG]

oh yeah, forgot about the hubs

what you want to find are set "outside" hub hubs.

if you lookin at em you can see the hub on the outside of the brake drum if its still atatched.

hey 40tudor, see you car here and there, never met ya(that i know of), but i hope your a little nicer to people that actually ask a question about something they dont know about in person! everybosy deserves a chance, me being a youth rodder( im only 23) knows about being looked at as though i know jack shit about cars, but i surprise alot of people.

Its a 62 401 buick nailhead, with a 65 switch pitch th400 trans, and a 9 inch ford rear suspended by a stock rear sprind and homemade pete and jakes type ladder bars

Dont want to offend anybody with the rat rod thing but I think it's a cool name myself. and I think if you are old enough and smart enough to build one of these cars the term rat rod shouldnt offend you.But what the hell do I know, but all bullshit aside thanks again Titus for answering my question and dont worry about 40tudor there's always one in every crowd that loves to bust them, I didnt think my original question was that complicated that people wouldnt understand it, I know I am no writer but i am not stupid either, I'm 46 years old and built alot of cars, Hot rods, muscle cars I've had them all, I just put together a 70 nova with one of my boys who is 19 and now helping my other son with his 71 dart and hoping down the road to build a model A coupe with them but that's a hell of a nice car you got there and at 23 you should be proud of yourself for doing a project like that and completing it. Not too many younger guys are interested in the early rods today well once again thank you for your help, Dave

Not trying to bust you. You seemed to be a little frusrated by the lack of response and I wanted to help you get the most out of the board. Take it or leave it.

The process of building a car is full of personal decisions - with no 'how-to'. Nuther great thing about the Bishop/Tardel book - shows you alternatives.

Don't worry about all the typing - I'm pretty good at it [IMG]

Nobody has talked about the rear so I will add some BS.I would use the Granada/Maverick rear instead of the banjo. Cheaper and better ratios. Easily to regear if needed. I would use the SoCal/P&J rear rods if I could not find some 35/36 rear bones. Mount the 35/36 bones real low to the axle so they miss the rails. Use a 40 front spring in the back.Take out a couple of leaves. I have never ridden in a car with the A spring in back that did not ride rough. I think the extra bend in them bind them up. Oh well, just openions. e-mail me if you want. I have been at this for a while. Good luck [IMG]

“People please let's get back to the original question”

“you could of saved yourself allot of typing and cut that reply down to about 4 sentences”

“I didnt think my original question was that complicated that people wouldnt understand it”

“if you are old enough and smart enough to build one of these cars the term rat rod shouldnt offend you”

Those types of comments make you sound like a complete ass. I understood your original questions. I didn’t see anything negative in 40Tudor’s response. His comments were helpful. Your questions were not complicated but they would require an essay to respond to adequately. The term “Rat Rod” doesn’t offend me as much as it shows your ignorance. Go ahead and paint your beloved term on the back of your car. While your at it, get yourself a hat that proudly proclaims “I’m #1!” .

your absolutely right about the granada rear end, but I really have my heart set on the banjo rear, hopefully with a halibrand center section, I was offered a 40 ford axle, spring and wishbone today which I will probably grab but i was looking over titus's axle bending service and noticed you could only drop a 40 ford axle 1 to 2 inches not sure that will get me as low as I want to be so I might have to look for the earlier axle and use the wishbone and the spring for the rear of the car,I would like to drill out the wishbones (radius rods) and weld in the tubes I think that's a good look.I would like to thank everyone for pointing me in the right direction.

"That's just beautiful", he says fighting back a tear in his eye. " A '32, found in a field, and brought back to life."
