I have a '46 Olds RHD box (No column) that may suit as well as a LHD column with box. FYI, I have a friend with a factory RHD '46 Olds, drag link is the same and RHD box is recessed into chassis rail. Have another friend with a '46 Olds convertible who is also chasing the RHD box.

Egge Machine (Los Angeles) for engine bits but don't forget

I'd have to say I don't think there will be a lot. You already know that. A lot of what you find someone else already paid to bring in and want to make a few bucks for their trouble. Save those few bucks, source it in the US and ship it in. I know I'm stating the obvious and not answering your question but while the dollar is good there's no reason not to go that way. Probably save you time, money and stress in the long run.

    Good luck

    Pete

P.S. I'm watching in case some great stash turns up that I can get my hands on.

Yeah, but we don't 'think' we know we are right!!:p:D

I have been searching for Buick parts as well, I came to the conclusion that for steering it was just easier to use a local part (ie:XY Falcon).
For all else save some money, sort out what I need and order it all from the U.S. and have it shipped in one order.

    Doc.

This is my thought too. I just waited for someone else to suggest it, because I know it's not what you want.

In reality it probably wouldn't be too hard to find a similarly configured box out of a Holden or a Falcon and adapt the mounts on your frame to suit.

That's what I'd do but it depends on how confident you are with that kind of fabrication.

Do you have a pic of an original steering box?

I just re-read the thread. We somehow got caught up with steering boxes. I see there's a bit more stuff you want. The dash could be tricky, but have you thought about a graft from a HK/T/G. It's a bolt in unit. Same with a Jag. Instant RHD with correct geometry and "modern" components, notch it a bit for a better ride height.
Maybe give us a bit more detail on what you are wanting to achieve.

Here's a HQ graft on a '50 Buick. Not sure if legal in Victoria, appears so in NSW, definitely not here in Q'ld. Added benefit of later model suspension, brakes and steering. All you need to do is mount the front bar, core support for sheet metal. I'm upgrading my '46 Olds to C4 Corvette and had to redo the front rails as like yours the spring pockets are built into the rails and upper shocks are part of top arm. A few ideas there. Dash would be a matter of swapping over to RHD configuration unless you can find a RHD wreck. Either way, quite a bit of work.

Legal in Vic with an engineers report. Just have to watch the width. I have one in my Chev and it is a bit too wide for my liking. Live and learn.

    hi mate
i might look at finding a later box to see whats involved.
i can take a pic of my lh unit... a rh 49 caddy box is no good bolts up all wrong, i just don't want to get to far into it and have an engineer crack the shits with me.

I'm pretty sure Buick shared the same front suspension with Oldsmobile and Pontiac from 37 to 57 with only the shock location changing in 49. In saying that I have a 53 Buick LHD, a 47 Buick RHD and a 54 Pontiac RHD and indeed the front suspensions are the same. Maybe you could chase up RHD Olds and Pontiac suspensions?
