A couple days ago we talked about an open and closed drive shaftfor my dynaflow. What modifications need to be done to the transmission itself to convert it to an open drive shaft. For clarification my 57 nailhead and trans is going into a 48 Pontiac. I was hoping to be able to modify the pontiacs drive shaft to work with the dynaflow. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
    Thanks

I don't know about converting the Dynaflow over to open. I usually try not to run the Dyanflow if I can help it. I'm thinking it would be easier and cheaper to find an open driveline Dynaflow...

61-63 big Buicks (Electra, Invicta, 1st year Rivi) came with open drive dynaflows. If you're hard set for a 'Flow, get one of them.

This really should have been added to yor other thread, that way all the advice would be in one place. I know you have a good dynaflow with a torque tube, but really I don't think that'll help you with this problem. I say put in a ST/SP400 from a later Nailhead.....

I've had a few dynaflows and they do get a bum rap. the varible pitch was a good performer and as said the 61-3 are open and usually free for taking I have at least two right now.
but the 65 225 electra two door hardtop, and 67 cad coupe de ville with the switch-pitch turbo400 was far and away the best trans of any GM car I've ever owned [IMG]

I appriciate all the advice. Obviously I need to look into getting a new tranny for this. Thanks for all the help.

Ah, the "Dynaflop"... Not really a bad tranny, but not a great performer. They sound like a vacuum cleaner winding up at speed. A little web searching and you could most likely find an adapter to hook up a more modern GM Tranny, TH350, 400 or 700R4. Try Classic Buicks in Chino, CA, Egge Machine in Texas, or google Offy or Trans-Dapt Transmission Adapters. '63(?)- '65s had 400s, internally the same as the rest of the GMs with the Nailhead bellhousing pattern. Good luck.
