I have a Brodix intake that may be going on a not so supersecret motor that's about to go together. I'm trying to figure out just what it is so I can make the decision to run it, or find something else. It's about 6-8 in. tall and has a couple of different markings on it. Of course, it's says Brodix. On the other side it says HVH and on the back it says HV1. The engine has cast iron heads, but there may have been some machining to make this intake work with these heads. When I look at the Brodix_site, all of the HV's are 4 digit part numbers. Is this an older intake? I can't seem to find reference to HV1 anywhere online.
Probably the same as the HVH1000. I have one, but can't remember if it had 1000 or just 1 on the casting. I'm think it was just 1. It worked real well at high RPM with a big Holley HP carb and cam. We could never get it to idle like it should though. Not enough vacum signal.
Just by looking at this monster, I'm worried about idle and rpm range. That's what prompted the question. Thanks.
If my memory hasnt comepletely failed me all Brodix intake manifolds are pretty much "race only", meaning big high rpm horsepower with not alot of concern for idle or drivability. You would probably be happier with an old Edelbrock Torker. Especially since you are not the only one that will be driving the car that your "little" small block will be going in. It has been my experience that my wife is not near as tolerant of my cars "special qualities" as I am.
Just from memory (so take it for what it's worth), I think it's a tall single plane intake that works from around 4500 up. Definately not a driver friendly street intake. Larry T
