Any one know of a source for the springs that go around the circumference of a brake drum to prevent vibration noise. I remember when parts stores had a card up on the wall with various lengths of these depending on your brake drum diameter. Hopefully somebody has a source. TIA
If the springs size just depend on the circumference of the drum, you might check at a local hardware store(I usually check out the local Ace Hardware)as they have a pretty good selection of springs at a reasonable price. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
They just don't go up against the outer lip. I believe there was a slight recess for them. A shop with a brake lathe could machine one in. As I remember they were close to 3/8" in diameter.
3/8" diameter sounds about right. Any car I fixed that had them rusty, most fell off as soon as we touched it. I never replaced one ever. Any drum I saw that had or should of had one had a recess for them.
Did they work, to stop squeeks? They probably had to be fairly stout tension. Vacuum tubes (remember those?) sometimes become microphonic, can often be tamed by high temp silicone o-rings or packings.
