My aunt was actually Gary Primm's personal assisstant at the time he purchased the the car for his casino. She told us it is without a doubt the original shirt and Bonnie and Clyde death car. Mr. Primm spent a lot of money on the car, and made very sure it was the real deal! If I remember correctly, he may have documented it through original crime scene photo's that were never made public
Yep.. I was thinking, the cops would have snaged a few "keepers" Like I said. COOL if it is the real thing!
I saw the car Barris was showing when I was 13. In the 70's Barris had a little museum called Car's of the Star's, on Hollywood Blvd. he would display his movie cars, race cars, etc. In fact Tony Nancy did a burn out in his dragster for one of their opening's, "The City even closed the street so they could run the digger" the good ol days ! The car I saw then, is not the one at the casino, I saw the casino car many times, Barris's car was well ???????? as always ?????????
All i know is the 1st car i saw at POPS was a 32 So there has been a ton of fakes around and you will never know Want to by Billy the kids gun ? There are about 1700 of them now. He must have changed guns about 20 times a day
I saw one at the fair in 1949 and my dad (now gone) thought it was correct but who knows--he had a fedral warrant for their arrest as well with pics (like in the post office) that I still have
There used to be a museum in st augustine that had a supposed bonnie and clyde car, but it was rusted to hell, nothing like that one. It sat in a badly built wooden shed with a huge plexi window, they also had jayne mansfeilds car , and the kennedy car. It was a cool place, all about death.
I do have Von Dutch's Death Car signs from Burker's 'Cars of the Stars' They will go on the walls here when the shop's finished.
Looks like the history channel will settle this one. Good link Bad Rod. Only in america would the real bullet ridden bonnie & clyde death car compete in a coast to coast race 50 years later......sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction.
Strange that this topic on this car should come up.The car from the movie with Faye Dunnaway was build right here in Dallas..Had a small block Chev installed for use in set locations..We took the car out to the City dump and shot it full of holes, taped over the holes and then painted the car..they placed "squibs" behind the tape to set off as it was filmed.Car then went to the Wax Museum in Grand Prairie,Texas where it stayed till the museum burned...was bought by a man in Denison,Texas as a burned out hulk. He brought it back to my shop to get it back as originally in the film so he could use it for display at various locations. While at my shop, the producers of the next movie(with Tracy Needham)came in and wanted to reuse this same car for that movie. They also picked up the tab for the redo at my shop.I delivered the car to them on location in Waxahachie,Texas.Had a hassle with them about being paid for the work.wanted to mail me a check. I told them either the car or a check was going back to my shop with me that day..I went back with the check!!!!!!The car went back to the man in Denison after filming.Hope not many of you guys have had the experience of working with movie producers that I have..Never again will I do work for a movie!!!!!!!!
Yeah, we saw the REAL car in a casino last year on the way back from the HAMB Drags. Funny thing is, the day before, we saw a guy's souvenier picture in his garage of the time he "saw" the "real" B&C car. His had widened 16" wires on it in the picture. B&C must have wanted more traction back then. I'm guessing the souvenier pictured car was the Barris recreation. Hope he didn't pay to see it. We saw the real one for free.
When you let a movie company use anything of yours (home, car, items) make sure you have a written contract with them for rent amount, repair or replacement of the article for the value of the item. Movie people are notorious for problems and skipping out on payment.
I'm glad they were using the spacious fordor model. It is always nice to have extra room to stretch out - and those back doors make it easier to jump in when one is in a hurry.
Which Kennedy car? Pretty sure JFK's limo is in the Henry Ford Museum.. so that leaves Ted "the car spins round and round and round" Kennedy's '67 Olds 98...
No shit, why would they do that if it was "the real thing"? If you look real close you can just make out the Goerge Barris autograph.
Now this sounds like the actual car, I got my story from a guy that was in arcadia when they pulled the car into town, he was only 8 or 10 at that time.
Great thread, guys!! I was just reading up about this last week. I'll have to ask my Dad about this, he grew up in Mckinney, Tx and was born in '39. He knows a lot about this history. Ax KC
Wow that's wild, more then one car, I too saw the ( one ) at state line casino just in NV from CA on I 15 bout 20 years ago. I just call and they said the display is temporarily unavailable. The lady I spoke with said it's out on tour and they have no info on where it is or going. PS....Clyde's shirt is with it. makes ya wonder..... Roach
Look closely, there is a different color behind the lettering than the actual car is. You can clearly see the line where the color changes. This is most likely a closely painted and lettered magnet.
the last time a saw the "real" Bonnie and Clyde death car it was in Whiskey Pete's Casino on the california/nevada line.that was about 1992 how many of them are there?
