It sucks that I cut out hours of work to do this, but I like how with the motor setback things line up.

Also did some trading and picked these up.

3 grand were they magnesium or gold? I just keep my eye out and wait for a good price usually. It's harder to do that with fronts though.

After moving the motor back I had it on jack stands and tried to shim it and center it this became a constant fight. Now I'm making some supports with bolts so I can position the motor perfectly.

I got the transmission support done.

Here it is supporting the trans. Hard to see.

    IMG_1472744594.157869.jpg
Next I will make the one for the motor

After the motor is in place I will mount the trans. Then the block will come out and I'll design the mid plate.

Put it all back together and make the front mount.

    Hi Fast

I had the same set up with the trans staying in the car, about 30 minutes to get the engine out after taking off the glass front end - headers etc

Looks like a pretty swift ride you are building, always liked the tri 5 's for gassers too but the 37' was my first choice

Thank d.n.d. The goal is to make things easy to fix on the car. 30 min that's a pretty good time. Love the 37 shows how a gasser should look. Clean and simple.

    Finally back home today.
Had some packages waiting for me
    IMG_1474759153.790409.jpg

The fuel pump I had was way to big for the 355 on gas so mike at alky digger set me up with this 150-0 a pump.
I had him polish it too. The polished hilborn pump is a hint on the direction things will be going.

The much needed 7 o'clock bell housing. Never bough one of these new looks real nice

The other box is a wilwood master cylinder.

Have today and tomorrow off so I got back to it.
    Had one more package
Polished edelbrock b10 in great condition no welds.
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1475199181.188877.jpg

Got the seven o'clock bell housing installed.
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1475199230.859864.jpg

The clutch linkage should work out good.

Then I built these to level the front of the motor.

    Hello,

Great build and cool looking 56 Chevy. Those Strombergs reminded me of our old 671 SBC with 6 Strombergs sticking up on top. When the 671 supercharger kits came out in mid 1960, we were able to get one of the first ones. The carbs made an unsual sound when accelerating or "revving" up. Our 6 Strombergs on the 671 happened to be the only one on a 40 Willys coupe at that time period. There was one other similar set up in a 50's fastback gasser sedan. That set up ran well for us until the clutch blew up and resulted in a destructive fire during the final C/Gas race in August 13, 1960. Keep up the great work and build.

    Thanks,

    Jnaki

Here is a photo of one of the early set ups of Strombergs on a 671 SBC in 1960

The pedals are nothing mad mikey wait for the linkage for the clutch and brake. Now that will be something.

Jnaki great story. Nice looking setup too. I recently saw those valve covers on eBay. Were they a set of weiands with the letters milled off to place the breather?

  26. I don't know if the guy is still alive but I got the coolest parts for my 97s from dick Crawford. he is in California. he had needle and seats with the correct floats that could handle 6lbs of fuel pressure. he had great linkage pieces that took all of the slop out. I also used his adjustable jets so I didn't have to take all of the carbs off to change jetting. a stock 97 carb butterfly has no bevel cut into it. they don't seal very good. flip one over and hold it up to the light. dick offered butterflies with a 13 degree bevelled cut. not only did they seal they didn't stick. the stockers work fine up to a point. as you add carbs you get to the were there is so much air leaking around the blades the idle goes so high it cant be controlled. I cut off all of the extra linkage that wasn't needed so I could set the idle with just one screw on one carb. I used Obrien trucker air cleaners on the street and scoops facing backwards on the strip. running the scoops forward looked cool but the gas would get sucked out and thrown on the windshield around 80 mph. reversing them stopped most of that. if I was to do it again I would make a air deflector that covered all the carbs like they did back in the day. I ran a wieand manifold like in the picture. the space between the bottom of the carb and the outside edge of the manifold is about a inch. the way the fuel has to do such a sharp 90 degree turn in such a small space always bothered me. I bought 97 spacers. I milled out the divider making one big space. doing this broke through were it curves in between the bores. we welded up that area so it was smooth across. I set my butterfies all the way closed then attatched my linkage arms using a angle gauge. this not only sets them all the same it also prevents binding. using hex shafts with right and left hand heim joint will pay off. using the longest throttle arm available to attatch to the gas peddle will slow down the opening rate making it controllable staging and driving on the street. it all worked great as I could drive it on the street with no problems. it also ran low 10s at the track. if you need any help you have my number. call ant time.

Not sure if I will ever use the 6 carb. I thought about it on my coupe. But that is all good advise. I was doing a lot of research and sourcing things out, but never got to that point. I'll see how the 4 port does on this.
