Projects 1940 Ford Convertible now with 303 Olds(updated 11-12-2022)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 40FORDPU, Jun 26, 2018.

  1. Had a good time at Billetproof NW Saturday. I spotted a great project car, a '40 Ford convertible on a trailer for sale, after speaking with the owner (nice guy, Ford Barner) I decided I had to have it.
It runs and drives, and is solid.
He delivered it to me on Sunday.

I've been eyeing it on craigslist for a while,I just don't have room for another project. The price seemed fair and the car looks good. Enjoy it!

    Beautiful car.
Between this and your pickup you've got myself and probably more than a few other envious.

  11. The car is incredibly solid and all but rust-free; the top rail is the worst part I saw and it's not bad at all. I told him he's one of those guys that could fall into a barrel of horse manure and come out with a rose between his teeth and a $100 bill in each hand....

  14. The engine-trans-rear end-brakes-steering box have all been rebuilt/replaced, so I will leave it in the stock configuration of those components (at least for now).
I have started dismantling the dash, exposing all of the filled holes for trim, and removing body filler covering the cowl vent, I will add all of the trim, and make the cowl vent functional.
I will be painting it a shade of dark red/maroon, with tan top, tan interior, and tan wheels.
I will change the stance so it has the "right look".

  15. I exposed the cowl vent, along with all of the trim holes (as they had all been filled in).

  17. After both quarter panel replacement panels installed, body work completed and painted.
    Stripped dash, repaired hole, primed/painted.
Stripped heater cover, primed/painted, and tested heater core.

  18. Dash installed (wife did a great job on the faux wood grain moulding), top/boot/upholstery still need to do.
I've changed my mind on interior/top colors..I will go with burgundy interior, Black top and boot.

I wanted a '40 Ford well before I was old enough to get my license.
Thanks everyone for the compliments.,it's appreciated.

No I think hoarder starts at five.... Since I share the same affliction as 40FORDPU I can empathize with his condition.Looks like he may have to expand his shop space though.

  30. Updating build threads, inspired me to bring this up to present time.

I decided to go the route of the Cartouche interior, I'll post a picture.
I still haven't found anyone in the local area who wants to install a new top for it.
The sweet running flathead that was in it, decided to overheat on me a couple of weeks ago, checked the oil, and there was water in it.
Rather then sorting it out, I elected to install the Olds 303 that I was going to put into a '41 Ford p/u, but decided to not keep that p/u, so went the quick and easy route with it, and installed a 350/350 and sold it.
I have kept that Olds engine with the idea that maybe someday I'd put it into my convertible..that day has come.
    More to come.
