Technical Bell housing and trans

I have a 53 F-600 with a Mercury flathead and 4 speed; I'd like to use the motor in my 28 sedan. Will the bell housing work with any other transmission? I know the 4 speed isn't an option, it's bigger and I don't need granny low.

i may be wrong, but in 53 they used the standard 4 speed trans bolt pattern, so you could put any ford standard trans behind it, from an older mustang or something of that nature. or buy the adapter for a T5
