Titus is building a 302 for one of my A Tudors. I picked up a Barry Grant Six Shooter set-up awhile back from continentaljohn. Killer set-up -- even cooler with the air cleaner set-up that Titus fabbed up using an O'Brien Truckers lid. The road block now is the distributor clearance -- or lack there of. I bought one of those inexpensive HEI units and no-go, not even close. Any suggestions.

Turn the carbs around. Fords run the Holley's backwards on the small blocks. Do a Google image search on 289 tri-power and you'll see the carbs, linkages, etc.

    Bingo! ;)
Even on the FE big blocks, they're mounted backwards..

Yeah, I know... That was Ford's "better idea" at the time...
    But it worked! ;)
Another idea they had was to mount a vacuum line between the two vacuum secondary spring covers on the 2x4 Holley carb setup... Those worked also..
I modified my tunnel ram setup the same way.. :)

Man, the distributor is in the wrong end, the carbs are facing the wrong direction, and the oil pump is in the wrong end too, who designed these things, id like to punch em in the jaw!

  11. Humor the Ford guys Jeff, they know not where they have sinned. ;)

  12. Ford had short mechanics and they were getting sore backs reaching for the distributor to do maintenance.....

Come on now! What idiots want a distributor in the back against the firewall where you have to stand on your head to check the dizzy cap? How many firewalls are out there butchered so the Dizzy can be accessed?? Ford just has a better idea and after all it is still the grass roots of traditional hotrods and what better than looking at the old flatty with the dizzy looking right at ya??

It is a lot easier to change points and condenser with the Dizzy up front where it belongs.
Also less heat in the front of the motor where the air is moving.

A sbc fits into a 32 just fine without modifying the firewall.

Itd be nice if they had a short water pump that fit 55-90sh fords.

Now a flatheads are a different story, they are cool.

    The battle is on.... :D
    Popcorn anyone???

  17. Not to mention that the distributor in front creates a lot less cam shaft twisting that creates erratic timing and premature wear. It only took Chevy 50 years to correct the problem - all you have to do is look at their current NASCAR motors to see they finally understood. The again, those motors are so Ford influenced that a Ford NASCAR head will bolt right on them!

I have been wondering how these perform.

  21. first of all..it's called a distributor! not a dizzy ...

hawaiiracing... has a crab cap conversion that works on msd distributors.

Im just teasin, its just another motor, ive put alot of cars together and its just all metal in the end, this motor should be a pretty nasty little motor.

  25. I heard Holley is buying Barry Grant out of bankruptcy court, if this is true, I wonder if they will keep these setups?

I know Ford made the short water pumps for a few years and don't know if the aftermarket made any. The problem I had is the pullies and had to make my own. They later came out with a set not sure if they are still being made. Thanks

Bull that motor looks wicked and how about a shot of the whole project your building one heck of a stable with the correct motor too:D
    Happy Holidays!!
