Hotrods more or less fall into that criteria as well... With that Appreciation is Varied from Minimal to Monolithic...
It was not fun...a terrible way to celebrate the History of What is celebrated here...Play but Respect...It's a fine line...I'm here for the Long Haul Torch held High....It all rocks. Hotrod/Custom are not one without the other. The Shows Catered to Them all as Equals...What we Celebrate and Revere...The HAMB
Yes but messing with haters is fun It’s odd how folks get ruffled over a period correct build on a site that promotes that.
...Pretty Cool Shot That I just realized was posted by @chevy57dude...my apologies....well its a bigger one... Credit to Photographer, Owner
No Guestimates of Hammer Drop.....Sold? From Those That Know......That Would be Us...I'm Gonna say 475K Lot F225 Kissimmee 2020 Jan 2-12 1955 Chevrolet Aztec Built by Barris Kustoms, Displayed at the 1959 Autorama
==================================================================== So timwhit a note of correction to this comment. The issue of Hot Rod you refer to is November 1958. The car shown on page 42 & 43 was not named "The Evergreen Eyefull" it was the "Northern Star". Hot Rod made a mistake. The "The Evergreen Eyefull" is on pages 56 & 57 of the same issue. And I am a fan of customs, but not this one.
So then why can't you just respond like that rather than like a 14 year old on twitter. Sent from my SM-G950W using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
After seeing the motor shot of the way it was vs what they did now... Ugggg. Such work went into the exterior, then just throw a basic SBC off the shelf in with some mr G valve covers and a 4 barrel... Hell my Cheap SBC in my 53 is more detailed than that motor, and mine is just a throw together driver. I just don't get some folks... Focus only outside and interior, nothing about the powertrain. Personally I don't like the headlight treatment, or the hood, BUT the roof looks pretty cool, tail is a shit load of plaster work probably knowing Barris, I'd be afraid of a fin breaking off... Still cool none the less... Call me a "hater" I don't care, It's not my style, But I respect it as being one of the early Kustoms that paved way for the shit we do today.
You are certainly correct about the engine...It deserves the vintage dressed...But perhaps the full rebuild wasn't realized...maybe the original is on a stand at the shop...that would be hopeful. I'm much more open about the Visions put forth from back in the day both in Custom & Hotrod...but perhaps living around Art gives me other perspectives...That engine has to effect value I suspect... Custom Hambers...Thoughts on the mismatched engine...I mean these Auctions are places where numbers matched gets thrown around all the time...But I know the engine is a relatively doable minimally invasive maneuver but how much does this effect value...Just curious...because that could be 5-10k may be more to get that bay detailed back with suitable clone I suspect.
Tomorrow is the lucky day for someone. I also noticed when I was looking to see what slot it was in that shortly before the Aztec they are selling Christine from the movie. Christine's estimate is at $400,000-$500,000
I remember there was a magazine article about dressing up an engine compartment from way back and it showed Junior putting all that equipment on the Aztec. Sent from my SM-T350 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I obviously don't know but I would guess it has very little effect on value. All pretty much bolt on parts and IMO other than for maintenance a custom should never have it's hood open anyways.
Love this poster! I need to get mine framed and put up in the garage, I've had mine stored for that last 35 or so years. How cool would it be to have all of these cars on display in a single building?!
