Hot Rods Barn Find '58 Corvette Gasser - Long Island NY

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HotRod28AR, Feb 12, 2013.

  1. Some of you may have seen this online about a month ago, it was on ebay and we bought it! Been in storage since 1974. I'm trying to find any info on it or someone who remembers it. It's got a 327 with Hooker fenderwell headers, but may have run a big block at some time. The front suspension is raised, and the nose is sectioned. There are tow bars in the front, and traction bars out back. The car was in Long Island most of it's life as far as I know. We're leaving it just the way it is, but swapping out the rear wheels/tires for something more vintage, and swapping the engine for a Man-A-Fre equipped '69 LT1 350.

Dean, neat 58. The front suspension kinda looks like the stock setup, how did they raise the body up?

    That's awesome what town?

  8. I don't know what town it was stored in off hand, but they raised the front suspension by putting thick I-beam spacers in between the frame and suspension, one on each side and one in front, so much so that the sway bar was never hooked back up!

I have always had a sweet spot for early vette gassers. Very nice.

What size wheels are on the rear? I have some early American Standards for sale. 15x8-1/2's if you're looking.

  13. dean,
That was a common way to lift one. The section job and the cut fenders make it look like it is taller than it really is. Pretty slick old corvette.

Wish I had some onfo for you. I wonder what has been done to the 327?

I love it! Cool! Cool! Cool! The 'Vette
    gold-chain, numbers matching,
resto-freaks will hate you just for
having it even and particularly for
keeping the way its supposed to be!
And the 350 with the Man-A-Fre
set-up gonna' be icing on the cake!

as the whino's whine---what a great find i saw on ebay where the car was in a barn for 35+ years before being found and listed on ebay---you are very lucky to have obtained such a great car and keeping it period correct will make your peers happy ---put that intake on a 327 wink wink---hope you can bring it to mokan so i can blow it's doors off with the one i have been finding in my"barn " for 48 years---is there a hamb club for these things

  21. I ain't a Corvette guy but darn,that car is cool! HRP

  22. Trust me it's fresh enough to be a "barn find"! The 327 that is in has fuelie heads, but seems mild. I'm more of a fan of 327's, but the LT1 was built in 1969 with everything you could throw at it; fulie heads, Man-A-Fre setup right from the company, Rotofaze Kong Jackson distributer, etc... badass looking mill!

I just watched some videos on youtube, this car sure looks a lot like Sal Accardi's '58 Corvette...

That's a cool vette. I'm sure someone on here recently posted a load of old 8mm footage taken in the 60s at an eighth mile strip New Jersey/east coast area, but I can't find it now? Featured throughout it was a red vette. Worth taking a look!
