Bought some parts in the weekend and think I got some Good banger parts. One of the heads is stamped with a C, and there’s a set of rods tagged as model B, then this crank, which I’m hoping someone can identify. Also got a rebuilt 28 Chevy head, and a few other bits.
There’s a recent thread about using a ‘27 Chevy head on a Model A engine (if my memory is holding up). That might be why it was with the parts you have? I seem to think that in the thread a good head was hard to come by as well. Might be worth looking into.
The 28 Chevy head looks like has been updated with newer valves, keepers, and maybe springs. It is the 28 head to be used, 27's only have one exaust port.
Being counter balanced, the crank is likely a highly coveted "B" crank. The '28 Chevy head is the one used to convert Model A & B engines to overhead valves. Also a pretty desirable piece. The head is for '32 and later "B" engines and if memory serves it has a very slightly higher compression ratio.
The "C" head I believe is off of a 1934 Ford....People called it a "C" model but the factory just listed it as an Improved 4 cylinder....Here are the heads and prices from a 1934 Ford Parts book...A-6050-A.. 28-31,,,,$7.50...A-6050-B.. 28-31..high compression,,,$7.00...B-6050...32-34...$7.50....
The "C" head was used 1932 to 1934. Ford made a high compression head for the Model A and to identify it cast a letter "B" in the head. When the '32 came out they had to use the next letter. Charlie Stephens
Thanks so much for the info everyone. This place is special because of the knowledge hanging around here. I have a B block already, so I think I have the makings of a great banger motor project.
