I still agree with sheet metal contest hot rod related but the sheet metal must be bigger than 4x8.. I think it must be quite big to make an headlight!

I just have to make 2 headlights...

If you are talking about my request to use a 4x8 sheet I was speaking in feet not inches. I would guess you could make a couple headlight out of a sheet that big.

I was wondering how big his headlights are going to be! Are they for that Saudi Power Wagon?:p
Fantastic generosity giving one of these things away, I just wish I didn't suck so much and had a chance!

Thanks for starting up another contest and another great prize. How about making the contest "best way to do it without the right tool". It would be oriented towards the backyard guy but obviously anyone could enter. You need to make a bead roll but don't have a bead roller, so you....... or you need to wheel a piece of sheet but don't have a english wheel, so you..... Peter.

That was my basic idea. Everyone starts with the same and makes whatever they can with what ever tools they have. If everyone takes pictures as they go the people who vote can see how they did it an take that into consideration when voting.

Also other items like square tubing should be allowed to support what ever someone may make. if someone makes a cowl or other item needing support, need to make sure it gets it.

I do very little with sheet metal, and don't have much need right now to do some. If it's gonna be a sheet metal oriented contest, thats cool. Just let us know up front. I can have fun sitting back and watching

How about "who want's to bring my '32 Back from the dead" for free? All the great metal fabrication techniques will be needed and could really show off some equipment. No? Damn.

Or why don't have a contest in which the winner gets one of every Metal fab equipment that you have and with that they have to bring my '32 back form the dead. Let see what the Baileigh stuff is made of!!!!

'32's are easy. How about a '54 Hudson Jet, something that nobody makes and repair panels for.

Do you have to use the whole 4x8 sheet?

I have an idea but it would only take a 4x4 sheet and it would need to be cut into three sections.

you will have to talk to the Baliegh guy about that. The 4x8 thing was just an idea, he is the one putting up the prize. He will have to be the one to decide on what it is and the rules.

It would be a good promotional piece for Baliegh.

I really like the idea of making something from a specific size/piece of metal and making whatever you want. It takes a big variable out of the equation and "levels the playing field" to a certain extent. It would be a really fun challenge even if I didn't think there was any way that I could win.

Need a good name for it. Any special theme on the Tech Week?

A couple weeks out. It looks like it will be between the shrinker / stretcher and the bead roller.
