(Should have done this weeks ago, sorry.) Hi all, I'm new(ish) to the HAMB and my name is Artiki. I'm 33 years old, married, no kids yet and live in Birmingham, England. Birmingham is pretty much as near damn central as you can get in the UK. I am a school librarian by profession (think Gyles from Buffy but with tattoos and piercings). I run a '58 Ford Anglia 100E as a daily hack and a '31 coupe gow job that should be on the road next month. I have a fifth share in a hemi powered Austin p/u gasser and I also have a teardrop trailer which keeps my ass off the damp grass when I go to the drags. Early rods, gassers and choppers do it for me, but I guess that goes without question.
George Orwell? Looks like the whole world is going animal farm since about 1984, but you know kurt vanagut had some really ahead of his day stuff with harrison bergiron. You know what I mean don't ya Giles. Anyway welcome. every seperate dying ember rot it's shadow on the floor and my soul from out that shadow that lay floating on the the floor shall be lifted.....Never more.
Vonnegut has written some really cool stuff, I remember going through a lot of it after leaving school. Wasn't Slaughterhouse 5 one of his? I'm reading a lot of Gore Vidal at the moment. He's strong. Orwell was one of the first writers of political work I read as a fairly young teenager, so he'll always have a place on my shelf. I'm not familiar with your quote. Who is that?
Slaughter house 5 is Vonnegut. The quote is from Edger Allen Poe's The Raven. Sorry to be so off topic with my reply guess I'm jest in one of those moods. Anyway you got any pics of your ride?
"Smell My Glove." Welcome Artiki, as a former resident of the blustery North of England I pity you. I too have a teardrop trailer, it was within it's cramped confines that I and the wifey made our child, hence the trailer's name, The Babymaker. Post some pictures of your shit hotrodarian.

For pictures of the teardrop, view here... www.geocities.com/artiboy69/teardroptrailer.html I think there's a picture of my 100E on that site too. I've posted my A on HAMB before, but here it is again. I've read The Fall of the House of Usher & The Pit and The Pendulum by Poe, he must have been awesome in his day, I guess the same way Stephen King was through the late '70's and '80's.
Stock four-banger. 94 carb, header, Winfield head to come. The car will be black by the end of the weekend. The yellow has got to go....
Here's one of the gasser. It's a rusty as hell Austin A40 Devon cab, straight tube front, 354 Hemi, twin Carters's etc etc. Hopefully out later this year for shakedowns. There are five of us building/paying for this, so it works out a really cheap way of building a race car.
Keep us posted on the truck. I have a soft spot for Gassers.......it's on the top of my head I'm told.
Another one of the A. That yellow is just urgh.....I'll post some more pics of it on Sunday night when it's black.
Welcome! It's cool to see some UK tin! I teach English over here in NorCal...so I can sympathize with the book stuff. I definitely teach Orwell to my kids. And I think you may have just stuck yourself with a nickname, Giles. -Taylor
Gasser is bitchen! Best thing about the motorways in the UK you can do 1/4 mile runs down em' in a gasser (I rode with Terry in the Goldrush to wheels day last year and thats what we were doing anyway!) Great selection of cars you've got there! Oh yeah and read more Poe, we have a collection from the 19th century printed just after his death and it is full of some neat stuff! Orwell, Vonnegut and Huxley are all big in our house...
Hi Mart, I'm in Great Barr, just two minutes from the Scott Arms. Whereabouts are you? My wife's from Shirley and her Ma still lives there. Hey Ratboy, that Goldrush car is awesome. I suspect that our Austin will see track duty only. Your Poe book sounds fantastic, keep it safe.
I'm in Cranmore Boulevard, Shirley. Funny enough, I went to school right near the Scott Arms as a kid. Next time your visiting Mum-in-law, drop in for a chinwag. Mart.
