i have a blown flathead with c4 and gear vendors overdrive, drives well even on the interstate. Gene Benson from FLAT O will help you out.
When I put a late-model engine/trans combo in a '51 F1 Panel Truck years ago, I used the stock column shifter to actuate the automatic. Simple. Looked identical to what T-bars posted above...
Be sure to include detents to obstruct Reverse and Park when you use the original (manual) colunm shifter. .
Over here in the Land of Oz we have Mike Davidson who runs "Flatattack Racing Products" . He produceds a kit for an OD Toyota automatic transmission. http://www.flatattackracing.com/
Actually, I was more worried about that 'accidental' bump of the lever and into the big R she goes...don't ask how I know about this... .
Seen that done...on my truck...at 60mph! Sideways with tires smoking, a big ball of fire as the pump spewed hot ATF onto a hot exhaust. Refilled with ATF and it was fine. I was following and it was a sight to behold...my roommate did a good job keeping it on the road and not rolling the damn top-heavy panel truck! I'd rather be lucky than good anyday!
