I have a c4 auto setup in a 39 Ford truck. I fitted one of those ratchet shifters. I modified the mounting brackets to move the shifter forward so it’s touching the bell housing so the shifter comes out of the floor close to the original shifter position. But now the shift levers on the trans and shifter are vertically aligned with no horizontal offset. They are 3 inches apart vertically. So now I am trying to figure out how I can make a linkage work. So I come here seeking wisdom. Thanks
Convert it to a cable. If it's made by one of the name brands then they usually have a cable kit for tight fit applications.
Looks like I will need to buy a cable conversion kit. I think its a B&M shifter. I got it at a swap meet a few yeas back for $5. Its was missing parts and I have “modified” it to fit where I want it to go. I was hoping there was a toggle linkage setup or some other way with out doing the long cable loop.
You could always build a "monkey motion" pivot farther back, run the rod from the shifter back to it and the rod from it forward to the trans, being sure to keep linkage geometry correct.
