Bert Fuller from Salt Lake City was a bit of a racing driver and according to Rapid Robert he was also a chauffeur and in trouble quite often.

The first photos show him in Fords 999 that he was running at the fairgrounds in Salt Lake. The third photo shows him on an early Pierce Arrow 60 HP that possibly was stripped down for racing.

That must be from his 1939 win as he looks too clean in that photo.

Two pics below are from 1940.

Yes, definitely 1939. Note the minor detail difference just below the aeroscreen. There's another 1940 Victory Lane picture in "Gentlemen Start Your Engines" which shows this even more clearly.

This driver is only identifed as Dode Withrow. The car appears to be a T Ford based racing car. The location looks like a mile horse track?

    Can anyone add more?

The Morris park race referred to above was July 3rd and Christie would have beaten Jay if not for tire trouble... NY Tribune July 4 1905 ...Christie won the July 4 rematch by half a mile. The World July 4 1905

Yes, It mentioned that it had a 5 Main crank. I'll post a photo later of one with a crank driven blower. :D

[IMG]I've always liked the looks of this Christie. I wonder if the cast bronze wheels had anything to do with the tire troubles?

    From Leo Barbieri in Argentina:
    i send the pictures of the speed parts for the Model T which my dad has;
also we have the original racing oil pan with forced lubication with external oil pump for this car and the rare radiator mask [in fiberglass obviously not original but my dad builds this type of part.

The parts are not for sale but are being used in a restoration project. Leo & Carlos will be visiting this summer and I hope to learn more about the restoration business in Argentina.

[IMG]Chuck, do you know what type of transmission they adapted to the shortened T oil pan? Good luck with the project. Bob

A couple of nice 1914 Tourist Trophy pictures there, Kurtis!

This is Toby Rawlinson's Hudson - not a Sunbeam as the picture address suggests - which non-started due to an unexplained malady, but which was probably a faulty piston. The car had also been damaged during practice when its flywheel shattered and Rawlinson had had to cannibalise his road car to fix it. Rawlinson set off for the start, but when the Hudson overheated and refused to ascend Bray Hill he withdrew.

Rawlinson is the older of the two men seen in the picture and had taken part in the 1904 GBT Trials. He was also a pioneer aviator and had been issued with the third Royal Aero Club flying licence.

Picture address is right this time: Hancock's Vauxhall, which crashed spectacularly on the second day.
