I know I don't have to deal with minus -2 temp(feels like -30), but how do guys stripe in the winter. I was just looking at the Friday Art Show and you guys still look pretty busy(safarinut and the pan man outa chi-town). I keep all my paints in my garage and use one-shot reducer, but I have a hard time getting the consistency right. I'm painting the letters on johnfordman's '27 Offenhauser heads and last night I couldn't get the damn red to flow right. Is it just something as easy as warming the paint up or is there a trick I haven't learned yet. [ QUOTE ]

  2. Freezing will screw up the paint.

I don't think it's ever frozen it's probably never been colder than 40's in my garage.

  4. Still too cold for my liking.
But it's +1F here now. [IMG]

As the paint gets colder, the resins get thicker.
Have you tried 1-Shot Low Temperature Reducer ?

  5. I was out in the garage yesterday(single #'s outside;about 65 in the garage)and some of the paint was a little sluggish.I just palette like I normally do and eventually it gets right.I have painted in less than ideal conditions before and would postpone doing it if it was really cold. You can always lay a drop light close to the can to keep it warm.
One thing you have to be really careful of is painting in a warm garage and then moving the vehicle out before it's dry. What happens is condensation will form on the car and cause the paint to take a lot longer to dry.Sometimes it won't dry at all.
If I have a job to do in the cold weather,I have the customer leave the vehicle overnight to ensure that doesn't happen.

[/ QUOTE ]Yes I was using it for the first time last night. I normally use high temp reducer when it gets into triple digits in the summer.

  7. I use High Temperature Reducer all the time for Striping.
Low Temp for Marblizing and air brushing.

von franco is right..penetrol will definately improve the flow of the one shot...

are the offy heads on the motor or are they off...if they are off the motor, just take them inside with ya and warm them and the paint up.

i always keep my paint inside where it's nice and warm...and i have an area set up in my basement for striping smaller, portable stuff.

Wow! Thanks for the words of wisdom from who I believe are the current wise ones. Von Franco thanks for coming down from the tiki mountain in koolsville to help me out. Unkl Ian don't you use "very frickin low temp reducer" on a day like today [IMG] Hell I may even have some penetrol in my stash somewhere. Thanks again [IMG]

  11. Central heating was invented for a reason.Very traditional where I live.

I've never tried Penetrol in cold weather,in warm weather a little goes a long way.
But I have considered mixing Penetrol and 1-Shot High Temperature Reducer,
to make a "Too Damn Hot To Paint Reducer".
