Always been a hotrod guy but seeing the Kustom threads on here lately, WOW! Now I'm 50/50. Love both sides of the street.

  3. Because of my brother & his friends, I became a car guy at a young age.
They all had Muscle Cars & a few 50's cars.
When I was old enough to drive I bought a 50 Shoebox sedan that was a little crusty & needed some attention.
I quickly realized finding parts for the old blister was kinda difficult.
The next car was an o/t Dart w/340, 4 spd.
For the next 10-15 years I was a Muscle car guy.
Later on after the kids left the house I decided to get back in the car hobby, I bought a o/t grocery getter & gave it the once over.
    Love that car!
During this time I also discovered the HAMB & it was full of cool Hot Rods & Customs.
One day my bro called me up & said "bring a trailer out here & get my Shoebox, I'm done with it",
I arranged for a trailer & picked it up before he could change his mind..
So.. now I'm a mild custom guy too.
Maybe some day I'll stumble on an old Ford coupe, & I can become a total car guy.
    No imports please.

Early style hot rods, trad customs/taildraggers and crazy Ed Roth type stuff.
Never desired to own a street rod

    It certainly seems that way!!
  22. Hot Rods, In the late 50s and early 60s, I chopped and channelled 2 full fendered 34 Ford pickups. one with flathead power, and one with an Olds. There were many others, mostly sleepers.
I did have a mildly customized 47 Chev, where I shaved the handles, frenched the headlights, with 57 Vette tail lights, and lakers. I would still consider it a hot rod, because it was Buick powered with Buick running gear, and had no problem getting through an intersection.
The only reason I replaced the 396 in my Cameo, was because it was a completely original engine from an SS Chevelle, and couldn't be modified without destroying the value. I replaced it with a warm 454. It had 4.57 gears, so go was more important than show.
I prefer mildly customized cars over the radical customs, but I have seen some radical cars that I liked, even though I wouldn't have wanted to own them.

Hot rod for sure...but I wouldn't kick a 50 Merc or 7ED870B3-5BAE-4F6F-AB09-A61737122CF2.jpeg 39 Zephyr taildragger out of the garage.
