I’ve got a 53 F100 with the Factory 215 6 and I was wondering if anyone figured out how to put a 5 speed behind it using mostly junkyard stuff. Thanks.
You attempting to turn a 50 MPH truck into a 70 MPH truck. that 215 aint got enuf torque to pull tall gears or a overdrive. Swap in a FE and tall rear gears.
Great to see you are keeping the 215....they are sweet running engines. As for the T5, if you can pull it off you will love it! I put one in my F-1 behind the flathead V8, really made it fun to drive. I doubt you will find any junkyard parts to do it, but if you can find an adapter for a Y block, that will work on the six using the 3 speed bell. What trans is in it now?
Ask Modern Drive Line MDL I know a mustang world class T5 94-04 will work with a Yblock truck bellhousing with their adapter. A truck housing is deeper than a car so at least on a Y block the longer 94 up trans worked with this adapter https://www.ebay.com/itm/Transmissi...e:Ford&hash=item46138ecfbf:g:-ZAAAOxySy9SQyUu Give them a call they will point you in the right direction 208 453 9800
Maybe a Ford 77-81 TOD in early cast iron - like a top loader or the later 79/81 aluminum based....???
Check out Mummerts Y-block website, they have a t5 conversion for the 215-223 Ford six. I did the conversion on my 54 223 six cylinder which is basically the same as the 215. It uses a Ford Mustang t5 so the shifter is far back. As far as people saying these motors have no power, mine cruises 70 all day with no problem.
