I was curious if anyone has made steering arms at home, if so out of what kind of material. I'm working on my buddies '28 chevy with a 6" dropped axle, 49-54 chevy spindles, mounted with stock parallel leafs. I have some stock 49 chevy steering arms I was going to bend but they are too thick and hit the axle, plus they seem like they have to be dropped a lot to get under the springs. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
i'm sure they could be made for your 49-54 spindles , but Speedway already makes them for $39.95 http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/as....20/cont.1/intPgNo.2/redirect./qx/product.htm
I've almost always made my own steering arms. However, I need more info (photos) in order to suggest a way for you to approach this.
You might try 48-54 Chevy truck steering arms. I built a 26 Chevy a long time ago and it seems like that is what I used. I think they will bolt on too. Some of the other guys on the HAMB probably know more about this, it has been about 30 years ago for me.
Sorry I've been busy and havent been on in a couple of days, Thanks everyone for input. 36-3window- I'm using traditional steering, although I guess I could cut off the extra tab, yet they seem very wide and have no drop. Anyone have measurements on those flat speedway arms? JohnnyFast- I will try and post some pics this weekend. manyolcars- the upper one I dont think will be a problem its the lowers where the draglink connects that I'm having issues with. cabriolethiboy- I unfortunately don't have access to truck arms, and dont want to invest unless I know it will fit this application, Thanks for the suggestion though. Thanks, Rick
