I'm 72 and still at it. I just started a 1940 Plymouth coupe. I find that my work is a lot slower (but I'm in no hurry). I progress at about the same pace as I did when I was 18. I was slow then 'cause I didn't know how to do anything. I'm slow now must 'cause I'm slow.

Im 55 now, survived a serious stroke at 49. Bought the "T" before the next stroke kills me.
I still tinker in the garage but there are no more projects in my future.

I am 60 ,just finished a complete build of a nostalgia altered with my son,He is 30 but did not know anything about race car construction, but he sees better, so I taught him to weld , it helps having a helper, I just use a lot more carpet scraps to lay on or kneel on instead of straight concrete floor. we are planning our next build , a FED based on old TE440 style chassis

Had a 48 Chevy coupe I bought from my friend that he built. Keep it for about 6 years then I sold it and started building a Model A from the ground up. ( Made frame from 2X4 tubing.) Always wanted Model A! I'm 68 years old.

    Still building at 67.
Have had the OFT (old funky truck) for going on 45 years. Just lowered back end 5" which puts bed height at 31" (it's a 29 AA dually). Makes rebuild change #xx.
Sold the 27T project last summer along with a off topic 4X4. Still working on another off topic 4X4.

  22. Back in hot rods a few years ago, after building and flying WWI replica planes for 25 years, this is coming full circle for me, I'm 68 years old, and doing ok.

I turned 66 March 3rd, 2014, and am in the shop everyday. I help an 80 year old machinest every morning till noon then back to my shop. I keep doing little upgrades to the 31 coupe but find myself looking for another project, but can not for the life of me, find a car/project that really excites me. Part of my problem is room. My dailey is my 52 F1, plus an OT 66 Mustang with all the suspension mods, big engine, etc, that seldom gets driven, and I drive the 31 coupe everyday its not to cold. Just replaced the engine with a 427 sideoiler, so have the left over 390 that needs to go into something. I do NEED another project, but if I get another project, two of my cars will be sitting outside. However, the thought of "buying" a complete car just isn't in the cards.

I will turn 76 march 20, I have been working on my mandella drag boat last two years.
Will get back on my 5 window. I would like to get it done this year or maybe sale it.
It,s just to much work for a old man.

Well I have to admit that my current hot rod (flamed 40 sedan) is one I bought, but up till that time I built all my own cars. I am 68 and still enjoy being in the garage and fabricating and working with my hands, but I dont like long-term projects any more. This was an interesting thread for me to read as I have sold parts to many of you "senior" guys. I still love old cars but satisfy my old-car need by buying and selling more than building. At this stage of my life I really appreciate old rods with history and thats one of the main reasons I bought my 40 sedan. My first love is still 32 Fords, but my budget would not support the money needed to buy an original 32 Ford hot rod with historic significance. So I am happy with what I have and will continue to buy and sell old cars and hot rod parts, but I think my "builder" days are over.

I'm 68. I still do my own work. That's not to say I wouldn't buy a finished car. If there was one I could afford , I would. At 68,I don't feel I have to justify to anyone what I should or shouldn't do. Because of building cars for well over 50 years,I have more people coming to me and my retired buddy to finish there projects.
