Hey guys... My dad's in the process of cleaning out a junkyard that got shut down for ground contamination (the last load of crap he hauled to the scrap yard set off the geiger counter! [IMG] [IMG]) but anyway, there's a bunch of stuff, and I can have any of it I want. He called me today and told me that there's a late 50's Ice Cream Truck, make unknown. It apparently has an I beam axle with leaf springs, and doesn't look too heavy (not industrial). It's apparently all in really good shape, with the steering box, 5 lug drums, and all of that attached. I'm thinking I should grab it to throw under my 55. Do you guys have any experience with ice cream trucks??? Is it at least worth going to look at???

    If it's a radio-active Divco I'd pass on it.

but parts is parts, you might want to grab the whole truck.

    check it out.

  4. If it's a commercial chassis, say 50's Chevy or Ford, why not!

If it's a Divco or Gruaman bread/box style van, the axle may be still cool to bag.

All of 2 cents worth. [IMG]

Build the ice cream truck!! Just think how cool that would be. Could fill it with beer instead of ice cream.

Alright guys... Here it is (upside down) They scrapped the body to make it easier for me to see of I wanted the front axle setup... Anybody know what it is??? I didnt measure the width, but it sure didn't seem too wide to me! I think it'd look purty under the 55! [IMG]

    Here's the steering arm setup:

And here's a side view... You can see the 5 lug bolt pattern, and most of the steering box in this one:

Cool... Any idea on the width? Would it go under a 55 chevy without too much trouble?

    Pass on that pile man.
Rude Dude is right, Stay with a late
55 thru 59 chevy truck axle. And the car
    brake swap is a bonus.

I just sold a 55 Gasser with a straight axle
under it from one of the years mentioned.
    Fits real nice.

So you guys think that even for FREE I should pass on this for a budget gasser 55 chevy??? The wheels I'll probaby run are unilug, so that won't make a difference. I didn't really think the make of the axle would matter!?! [IMG]

The point of a gasser front axle is to take weight off, that thing looks heavy as fuck, a tube axle would probably be 50 puonds lighter. I'm a ford guy and I'm telling you not to use that.

Well, I will give ya one more reason why
you should probably pass on it.

Check the bolt pattern..... looks like 5.5 to me.
    And Chevy is 4.75.

Let me know when you find that unilug wheel!! [IMG]

But what do I know... I just a FNG and you are
