Technical Another cracked flathead question

    image.jpg image.jpg I know the cracks around the water jacket to head bolts ain't a big deal, but what about theses?

    It doesn't appear you have any making there way to valve seats or cylinders so I would think you are good to go.

    No there none between the cylinders and valves just the usually water jackets to head bolts and theses two places.

    I don't think you have anything to worry about. Proceed with the rebuild.

    Old timers would say that those cracks came with a Ford part number. Like the previously posted, no worries.

    I didn't think they were a issue, just needed reassured. Any need to helicoil them or just use studs and sealer?

    Most "no cracks" flat heads will have those cracks. It's like a car with "no rust" just means most of the panels are still there. Edit, don't use a tap to clean the threads and don't over torque.

    Just use a really good sealer on the studs so it doesn't weep out the head.

    Used number 2 Permatex per my machinist's recommendation. No leaks but I'm sure others will have other suggestions for a sealer.
