I've got a '36 pickup rearend that is going under a model A frame and I recently scored a '42/'48 rear mainly for the juice brakes. I brushed off the # stamp and damned if it isn't a 11-39 aka 3:54.:D My quetion is can I simply take the whole center section out and bolt it into the '36 rear without having to swap out the ring & pinion?
    TIA Geez

  2. That is correct - just match the internal (spider?) gears to go with your 36 axels and axle housings (sorry, I do not know what they are called).

My 32 project in my avatar has this exact same rear in it as you are putting together!! Here's a pic during the build process ....

Tom is probably right but I know some of the EARLY centers were narrower . Just check.
