I'm building a killer 215 aluminum V8 for my 62 Special convert (V8-4 speed car) - the block I have has one bad cylinder from rust pitting - probably beyond oversize. Can you put a sleve in this engine ?? Also, the shop manual says the cam bearings must be honed to size after installation - is this true, or are non-hone bearings available ! Thanks!

Check out www.aluminumv8.com . Dan is in Michigan and probably knows more about the 215's than anyone. Good luck. Stu

It had sleeves to start with, so I don't see any reason it can't have another.

  4. I'd agree with what both HEATHEN & Stu said. :)

So far as the cam bearings are concerned, there are a number of ways to get the tolerance you need. For the most part I think you'll find that in cases where this was an issue, replacement bearings are sized pretty closely and need little work to fit the cam...and can be scraped if needed.

Some machine shops can hone cam tunnels & bearings, some can't.
