My future plans are pretty crazy so far. In about a month I am going back east to build a 1954 tucker out of aluminum. Then when I get back from that I plan on finishing my 1932 pickup. Once that is done I will get back on the willys and finish all the metal work and get it so that I can take it to shows. (It will take me a little while to get it running, because I want to put in an 572 aluminum hemi and thats going to put a serious dent in my wallet) :) Then Once that is done I have a 36' 3 Window that I need to work on. Its quite a project with about 5 different cars going into it to make it a 3 window. (I had to do what I could because I cant afford to fork out $10,000 to get an origional.)

As for things from scratch I was thinking of doing a copper 34' bobber pickup. I have done some things out of copper and I thing that would be a fun project.

Polished Copper would be killer, damn even with a patina, it would be sweet. Keep up the great fab work, I personally like it myself. The 572 Elephant might be to much due to the power to weight ratio, but it would look sick. Even a 417 Donovan would look sweet in that chassis.

Last time (late 99) I was at R&B in Kenosha, Dennis had a Willys Pickup truck (steel) sitting in the parking lot and it was there for YEARS. I wonder if he ever got rid of that thing, it even had a custom frame. :)

Back on topic, keep up the great work and never follow, always lead and create your own vision, it's yours in the long run...

    Skajaquada...a couple observations:

Take one TCI chassis, include a Mustang II front end, power rack and pinion, disc brakes, a four link rear, and airbags. Make sure the frame is "stepped" to facilitate laying the running boards on or very near the ground. Add A/C, a fuel injected late model 5.0L Ford motor and an AOD. Drape this with a body that has recieved an incredible amount of metalwork.

Your argument suggests that this is the beginning of a full on "street rod", correct?

Ironically, the result is the '36 that Cole Foster built for K. Hammet.

It goes without saying that the Hammet car is unimpeachable in execution. Cole built an instant legend. And yes, the Hammet car is finished in a traditional style. The question is, is it a requirement that the ASR Willys be finished as a "gasser" before you are accepting, and therefore able to admit to the obvious construction parallels between it and the Hammet '36?

And is it your contention that this forum is so myopic that we would collectively subscribe to the "we are traditional" mantra to the exclusion of such an obvious talent?

Additionally, why the need to question ASR's integrity? The fact that there are "school lockers" in the background gives you grounds to question his veracity? And you are proud that you ignored the car, given the opportunity to objectively evaluate the craftsmanship, because it didn't fit your definition of "appropriate"?

Finally, indulge me while I plagarize here: "how do you manage to keep your foot in your mouth and your head up your ass at the same time?"

    My $.02

I have to ask, are these customers cars? That seems like a lot of cubic money for a college kid. Who Tucker are you doing. I would think theywould ship it to you, besides aren't Tuckers 49's?

By the way, great work. I have trouble welding in replacement rockers.

The aluminum willys, the 36' 3 window, and the 32' Pickup are my projects.

I am currently working on two 33' Willys 4 door sedans that I will be converting into a coupe and a pickup.
And a 36' 3 window that I cm fixing the rust out, and then chopping and filling the roof.

The reasion that I am going out east to do the tucker is that the discovery channel is doing a documentary on it so they have a section of the shop just for the car. The model of tucker that I am doing is one that Mr. Tucker designed in 1954 but it never got built. All that was made was a 1/4 scale model.

All I have to say is that if building a car from scratch "because I couldn't afford to buy one" isn't traditional nothing is. I have a feeling that the path to Orem, Ut will soon be well worn by those seeking quality metal work.

Your school will probably get plenty of hits on it's website by the folks here looking for a quality education for their rod minded kids too.

Keep us informed on the progress of the car and your progress.

So my plans have changed a little. The guys in new jersey are taking longer than they have wanted getting things ready for me. So it looks like I wont be going out for a few months yet.

I have had a hard time rounding up parts for the 32' pickup, plus money is tight. So insted I am going to get back working on the 40' Willys. I am a sponser at a few shows coming up so I want to get the willys as far as I can so that I can take it to the shows.

My dad got some pro street wheels for his 34' 3 window, and I am going to use them on the willys for now.

Today I started on the drivers fender working the seams, and getting the panel smooth. Its coming along pretty good.

Fantastic talent. No one needs to tell you not to pay attention to the morons on this site that don't "get it" because you're clearly not listening!

I'm not into IFS or giant slicks myself, but I can't stop staring at this truly amazing METAL PORN!!!

Good luck with the '36 when you get around to it, although you hardly need it. I'm attempting the same thing this year for the same reasons.

Today I got the opening on the fender rolled in. Its still got tons of tweeking to get it right. Also I got the headlight panel in. For now I will keep it solid. Kind of a race look.

I saw this thing at the Auto Expo. Really cool. I tried taking the panel fab class last semester but it wouldn't let me register. Probably because I waited to the last minute.
    Fantastic work!

Top notch work my man! Aluminum is so much more fun to work with than steel. I know from experience that you have tons of metal finishing ahead of you. Keep after it and good luck with the business. Seems that you will be doing just fine.;)

I'm with 32SEDAN... any "drama free" updates? (That means this kid gets to show his incredible talent with out being bitched at if anyone is confused.)

Hey Salt Flat, I'm down in St. George but would love to stop by next time I'm up there if you don't mind.
