Holy shit Ric you post a lot!

It really is a blessing when the better half endures the trip enough to become her own dream!

 

Long day but lots of fun. I have seen many of the places we stopped but its all new for Cynthia. The fact is that it really doesn't matter if I have been somewhere before because it is always different because of the people I meet along the way.

Today we met the guy with the cool purple custom truck and his buddies which was neat. A few hours later we were driving along Route 66 and came upon a huge auto parts garage sale and these guys were there hanging out. Turns out that the guy selling everything (Craig) was also a friend of theirs. He had a really touching story.

His wife had just beat breast cancer and they decided to sell everything and travel. We stayed a while and talked then bought a pile of cool old junk and hit the highway again.

Kinda creepy all these guys riding along on your honeymoon.
I love all of your roadtrip adventures. Thanks for taking the time to document and take us along for the ride. Some of my favorite parts are when your wife is photo bombing pinups.

About 40 miles east of Kingman on Interstate 40 I switched from fuel tank A to B because A was down to 1/8 tank. Didn't think much about it as I do this all the time. A few miles later I start loosing power and the engine dies. Coast off the highway to see what is up.

Air cleaner off; try cranking over and no fuel to the carb. Fuel pump? I went under the van and both fuel filters have fuel.... Hmmmm? Solenoid that opens A/B fuel valve stuck or not getting power? Then I remembered checking for something else on the panel yesterday. Opened it up an there it was; I knocked loose a wire from the A/B switch. Siphoned a little gas with a straw we found on the side of the road into the mornings coffee cup for the carb. Poured it in and it fired right up.

Cynthia thinks I staged the breakdown for drama and so I would look like a roadside hero. She may never know....

Now back to our regularly scheduled program (which is pretty much just about goofing off).

I see a lot of this traveling with Cynthia. Hope she doesn't walk into a light pole or a tree.

Been to Oatmann AZ. before. Either don't get out of the van or wipe your feet real good before you get in. You might have that lasting smell of donkey hockey all the way to Austin.. See you there. Rick

 

Two guns Arizona. Look this place up; it has an interesting history like so many of the now deserted towns along old route 66. It used to be gated and for many years their was a caretaker (long after it was closed down) that would chase people off. Now the gates are down and you can drive (or walk) right in. Really neat old ruins. There was once a zoo with mountain lions too.



















Favorite shot of the day. I always refer to our set-up when we are vending at shows as Camp Acme but from now on it's "KAMP ACME".
