A v-8 radiator help/choice

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Texas Webb, Jun 22, 2011.

  1. I found out from the fordbarn forum I have a v8-60 radiator.I got this with the 31 fordor last year. Also mentioned that it might not cool enough.I have an A grill and a 33 truck grill.I'm going to use a 51 merc engine. What radiator would cool and fit? The A grill was cutoff at bottom and the 33 grill is in good shape.Thanx,Webb.

If you want to drive the car in Texas and keep it cool buy a new radiator built to cool a flathead. Portell Radiator of Desoto MO. built a copper brass radiator for me that cooled a 286 very well, and I thought the cost reasonable.

  3. I'm not a Ford barn guy and I surley am not a flat head expert, add to that that I took my meds twice this morning (not on purpose) and I am having a real hard time focusing on anything. So take my response with a grain of salt.

I don't see any reason in the world why the V-8 60 won't cool the bigger flatty. Make sure that your fan is pulling air through the radiator, your pumps are up to snuff and that you have good functional T stats you should be just fine.

the heavy core radiators in the early mustangs or falcons work great, just get two necks added at your local radiator shop ....keeps the engine in a friends t-roadster cool in any Texas heat we've ever driven in and its a pretty hot built motor to boot

I'd by an aftermarket double pass. Might cost some $ but you'll never have to worry about cooling again.
