1963, first car 1953 Bel Air 2 dr hdtp. Loved that car, would like to have another if all of them I find weren't rust buckets.

  11. We have several Htps in the Hoard. My favorites are a pair of 64 fairlane 2 dr htps.

  12. Yep, with that cool low roof line of convertibles but much quieter and cooler/warmer. I also hated seeing convertibles with their tops up and all blown up at speed. 57' ELDO BLOND.jpg 59' DODGE LANCER!.jpg The fact that you could steal any convertible with a pocket knife was also a consideration.

When I scored my '63 1/2 Comet 2 door hardtop one of the first things my Dad taught me was that when it came time for cruising or just driving around, if it was sunny or clear, all of the windows were rolled down to show off the lines of that sweet hardtop.
Now I have a '59 Edsel Ranger 2 dr hardtop and when I am working on her, I drop the windows just to see how lovely she will be.

    SIDE NOTE-

As for 4 door hardtops, the '56 Mercury Phaeton, the '64 Galaxie XL and the '65 Galaxie LTD 4 door hardtops are just as sweet as the 2 door cars.

Shakedownpicture.JPG I do agree with all who've said, the windows must stay down with the Hard top. It's a rule with our 52. In the warmer weather the vent windows are adjusted for either low cool or high cool! It's our AC unit and it works just fine. It does get a little chilly as the months move into the fall. You can still wear something warm. Once it gets colder, it will be about that time when our Belle gets to rest for the winter.

I'm pretty happy that this post was brought back to the present. There are some really nice cars here.

61 Olds what a body.. This was the last of the fifties bodys.. This one looks kind of goofy without the door handles, I never could understand why they do that.. Those chrome door handles are beautiful..

While someone already mentioned the Continental, you seem to have forgotten the '52-'55 Lincoln Cosmopolitan & Capri 2dr Hardtops??

Let's face it, the 50's had the coolest looking cars, followed closely by the 60's cars. after that, mostly tubs.

There is nothing like cruisin' through the mountains of East Tennessee in my 63 2dr ht Galaxie with the windows down. And as if the feeling isn't enough, THE LOOK... OH THE LOOK. Long and low with the huge window opening. By the way...if you can walk away from your car without looking back in admiration, you've got the wrong car.

    Hello,

Despite the fact that we had our windows rolled up at Lions Dragstrip in every race, it was a very cool thing to do when cruising at night to roll all of them down. Even at night in the fall and winter,

    58 Impala total

The “openness” of the big door and the angled rear quarter window created a free feeling with the wind swirling all around us. The summer days and nights they were always down. That made it handy when rolling into the drive-in restaurant parking lots with the teenage boasting going on day and night. Without A/C, the wind wings and lower vents cooled the passengers all of the time.

The styling of the 2 door hardtop separated the everyday family car and the cool hot ro,d/cruiser for the teenage kid. Most of our friends had 2 door hard tops instead of any other models. But the 4 door hardtop models were really something with all of those windows rolled down, too.

A two door hardtop 1958 Impala, joined by a 4 door hardtop 1956 Chevy with a neighbor driving by with a 1959 Ford two door hardtop sedan….

Since 1949, our dad bought big 4 door Buick sedans until he turned the page to buy two door hardtop Buicks from that point on in 1957. No more big 4 door Buicks for him, just a long line of big 2 door hardtop Buicks. 1957-1982, every 4 years a new two door hardtop rolled into our driveway in Long Beach. I am sure he was thinking of his growing family in those 4 door Buicks. When we no longer sat in the back seat (two large teenagers and drove our own cars) may have been the turning point.

Love it. I am not sure why every one thinks the chevy cars of 55,56,57 are the best. I think the buicks are better looking by far but to each there own.
