Well, I feel compelled to add my friend Jim's car to this thread. I watched him build it in his home garage, by himself, including the paint, and these pictures don't even do it justice. Hope he doesn't mind.

Except, as is almost always the case, it likely would have been watered down beyond hope to satisfy the bean counters and mostly design ignorant target market.

Most recent case in point, the Chevy Volt - went from pretty hot, to ok, then straight to pretty pathetic.

But besides that, thanks for the great post and education on some nice shoe boxes. Much appreciated. Always have dug yours for sure.

Shoeboxes are a great "blank canvas" for custom ideas,

I agree. I have one for a future build.

Quick photoshop to get rid of the god-awful rims on the 49er concept. Saw this car in person almost 8 years ago in late 2002 in AZ. I would have bought 1...hell maybe 2 of 'em.

Bob Davidson's coupe that he has had for a number of years and it still remains one of my favorite shoeboxes.
I rode in the back seat of a 51 coupe from 1951 through 1955 including one vacation trip to California when the car was new. And a 51 Vic was supposed to be my first car but the folks sold it when we moved back here.

I remember Bob's car, and it is really nice. We both attended a couple of Bill Ross' invitational gatherings in Yakima, 1998-2000.

Thanks for the positive response, everyone, and thanks particularly to Rik for his inexhaustible collection of great photos.

Awesome thread! My dad's first car was a '50 Ford. That was in the early 60's. I wish he still had it.

Hey Tony, Ya done it again!

What's always amazed me 'bout the "Schewbaux'' is the story of how it came to be, design wise-

With designers like Elwood Engel ('61 Continental ,T -bird, later 60s' Mopar designs) Joe Oros (Ford design, later 60s Mopar) Bob Bourke ('53 Studebaker) Richard Caleal, Holden Koto- all ex Raymond Lowey Studio guys- how could Ford miss?

Over the last sixty years many have tried to improve on the Schew's lines, but so few have hit the mark...............the"Fraudmobile'' has made me rethink that statement a time or two.
