I having a really hard time finding a part number for the drums on my 9" axle. Napa online doesn't list anything for the 50's any longer and the counter guys at a couple different stores weren't much help.

Anyone have part numbers handy? It's a round back 9", so I assume it's from the 50's, it has 2.5" wide shoes and a 4.5" bolt pattern. I can go out and get more measurements if that will help.

    Thanks.

The closest thing I can find is M-1126-B on the Ford Racing website and Jegs, I can't seen to find any exact matches. It looks pretty close, do you think it will work?

  5. No part numbers, but are you sure it's not 2 1/4" wide?
    11" drum.

    I made a point to go with a less powerful rear drum brake on my 31 on 32 rails roadster . . . 1 3/4" x 11" and 10 12" Camaro discs up front.
62 Ford pickup round back with a couple of dimples.
    Standard size fwiw.

Since the late 50's drums are so expensive and hard to find I'm thinking of getting a pair of 62 pickup drums and drilling for the 4 1/2 pattern.

The 32 roadster works fine with 11" Mustang discs up front and 11" x 2 1/4" drums.
I mention this one since it doesn't need a proportioning valve - it's got one, but it's backed all the way off.
Gonna try the 31 without a propo valve and see what happens.
Not totally convinced that most cars really need them.

Fwiw, the 32 has Dodge drums.
No parts number for you, but as long as the axle register is the right size the bolt pattern is 4 1/2".

    Yup, definitely 2.5"

I found a '58 Thunderbird drum that uses a 2.5" shoe, but I can't find the center hole diameter. I may order one and hope for the best.

    Hey Ink,
I just went down stairs and measured the new drums that I got a few months ago.
Ford SVO/Motorsprts or what ever they call it now.
    M-1126-B
    11" dia.
2 7/8" across drum face (where shoes ride)
3 9/16" deep (with straight edge across drum down to where it sits on the axle)
2.78" center hole (measured with dial calipers)
    Have fun,Smokey

    Hey Ink,
what does you rear measure from the axle flange back to the lip on the backing plate that excepts the drum?
If it measures a little more than 3 9/16" the M-1126-B is what you need.

The center hole of mine is about 2.4", and the depth to the axle face is about 3.5", so I guess the M-1126-B won't work for me.

    Thanks for checking.

Sweet, those sites had dimensions and everything. Looks like the '58 Thunderbird drum has all of the right dimensions.

    Thanks!

If you are pretty sure of what year to look for, you might try checking www.rockauto.com

I purchased new rear drums for my '62 Galaxie for about $25 apiece from Rock Auto. Smokin' deal, if you ask me!
