7.00-18 Firestone in the old Tread Pattern Limited Production Run

Im posting this information with the blessing of Ryan. Also note, this thread is purely about the 7.00-18 Firestoneand nothing else (no negative stuff).

For many who have been looking for the 7.00-18 Firestone Champion Deluxe, we know that the tread pattern was switched from the 40/50s pattern to the 30s Balloon pattern a while ago. That particular tread pattern just doesnt quite fit the look for most of the early hot rods.

I contacted Coker Tire a while back, and worked with them to understand what would be needed to make the old tread pattern again. Fortunately, Coker determined they could do a limited production run. In order to kick off the production, Coker needs at least 84 tires preordered which are $195 each. Once the minimum preorder has been met, it will take approximately 6-10 weeks for production. And another important note Coker mentioned that this would most likely be a once every 5 year production runso it may be a good idea to get an extra or two for those of us who log the miles.

If any of you are interested in the preorder, send ME a PM or email. Ill get you the proper contact information for the preorder. But to summarize it when you place your preorder, Coker will run a pre-authorization on your credit card (to make sure it has sufficient funds for the total). The actual charge will not take place until the tires ship though.

Those wheels are original Divco "milk truck" wheels. They're out there, but be prepared for the cost. There are some alternatives for 18" wheels though. All American Wheel makes a cast aluminum version of the Divco, Vintage Engineering makes several Magnesium 18" wheels, and there's always a '32 Ford wire wheel. Coker makes an 18" steel wheel too.

Good question - sorry for leaving this off.....

Overall diameter is approx 32 1/2"
Cross section width is approx 8"
Tread width is approx 5 5/8"

I can't commit, but by the time this deal closes I'll probably be ready to throw a set on the shelf "just in case". I don't have anything now (or in the works) to put these on. I'm sure I'll figure out something though.

One bit of info that might be helpful to prospective buyers would be the wheel width parameters. I know some of those high clearance wheels were only 3-1/2." By the way, speaking of 18" wheels, here's a couple of pics I posted in another thread, where I stumbled across this 18" X 3-1/2" solid steel wheel. Most of the people that responded said this was probably an agriculture wheel that was not uncommon. That being said, I couldn't find anything out there even close (so it's probably destined to hang on the wall). It has (IMHO) an absolutely killer look, as it is dished (unlike most of the Divco type wheels). I'd love to see a set of those 7.00's mounted on wheels like this. Then again, maybe 4-1/2" would be as narrow as you can go?

Divco wheels are 3 5/8" wide, and a '32 wire wheel is 3 1/2" wide, which is probably the most narrow you would want to go. On the flip side, personally I don't think this tire would look good on anything over 6".....maybe a 7".

Maybe contact a few of the traditional professional builders directly, like Bobby Walden, Steve .... uh, Limeworks, Jesse Greening, Jamie... uh, Hot Rod Company in Albuquerque?

Mike - pretty much once we reach 84 orders, the window will most likely be closed. If you sign up for a pre-order, you don't actually get charged the amount until the tires ship which will be 6-10 weeks (the production time) after the pre-order has been reached.

Would be much more tempting w/ a few wheel options, mounted & balanced.

I'm not trying to sound like a dick here, so I apologize in advance if I come across that way.....

This was no small feat getting this tire deal. For anyone who has actively tried to get these tires, there have been none for several years. I even asked a guy at the Columbus GG show if he'd be interested in selling the wheels and tires off of his car just so I could get the these back tires.

There are numerous options for 18" wheels. It's definitely traditional, and was a popular wheel size at the dry lakes and Bonneville. Ford made about 250k '32s - so even if only 25% of those exist today, there's still 250k wheels out there (and reasonably priced). Not to mention, there's a large aftermarket out there with steel wheels, aluminum wheels, and magnesium wheels.

The 18" Alum. Divco wheels at American Wheel are mine that I make, they sell them for my son and I and if you are interested I can give Hamb members a very good discount. We make them in 4" and 6" widths and they can be drilled for your pattern. If interested send me a PM.--TV

I sent you a PM. Allan was one of the first people I contacted! As of Friday, we were setting at 18 pre-orders. I'm hoping we can get the rest of the 84 by the end of October (I don't know if that's overly optimistic yet or not).

I'm guessing since the run will be small, they didn't think that it needed to be uploaded to the site. The end result was relying on me to spread the word - which was just fine because of how much I wanted to get this tire.

On the flip side - a lot of people must think I work for Coker!
